Meet the Author

I have had a love of sci-fi since I was a kid... watching Star Trek with my father. I am such a junky for action packed sci-fi movies to this day... thanks Dad! That love started to include the supernatural/paranormal as I reached my teens. I will always thank Anne Rice and Lestat for introducing me to a whole new genre... and my love vampire fiction was born. When I began writing, I didn't consider the YA paranormal genre. I started two previous projects that I couldn't finish, and I never knew why. But, when I started to write - A Chance for Charity (The Immortal Ones) - the story poured out of me and I loved every minute of the writing process! I still have those other stories, and someday I plan to go back and finish them.I am a crafter by nature! This probably also explains my love of writing - it is in the creative family. I scrapbook, sew, bead, etc... I love to create. I have a room in my home dedicated to crafts. Paper, ribbons, stickers, die-cuts, there is whole mess of supplies! At one time I was in the handcrafted wedding/party invitation business. You should see my kiddos' birthday invitations! My other love is baking, although I don't do a ton of it. Because if I bake it, then I want to eat it! Cookie creation is a fun process. I like to see how many yummy ingredients I can cram into a recipe. So far, my favorite cookie is an oatmeal, coconut, chocolate chip, toffee bit cookie - YUM! I will totally email you that recipe :DOn top of writer, part time teacher, crafter, baker... I am wife and mother - the latter being the best job in the world!

    Not Another Vampire Story

Faced with the daunting prospect of yet another high school, seventeen-year-old Emily Johnston is fully prepared to cope as she always does-by keeping a low profile. She, however, quickly finds herself surrounded by a group of friendly students, and strangely drawn to Link, the new mysterious stranger in town.

S.L. Baum quickly draws us into the intriguing life of Emily and her family. Why do they keep moving every few years? The story unfolds at a pace that allows the characters to be fully developed. The intense relationship between Emily and Link unfolds to divulge ... I won't tell! S.L. Baum's style is elegant and easy to follow. I enjoyed reading this book, as did my ten-year-old daughter. We are looking forward to the sequel!

AMAZING BOOK THAT ANYONE COULD READ AND LOVE!!!!

This had to be the best book i ever read in my life at first i thought it was just going to be one of those books like twilight where a girl and boy fall in love even though they are not meant to be but this book was much more that that. this book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole book. i was so sad every time i had to put it down cause it was just great. there was never a part that you will just not want to read. it was romantic(my favorite thing about the book),sweet, funny and just a great read. i loved it. some parts you will laugh your head off and some parts you just want to cry about. This was not just a regular vampire book it was just mind blowing and every chance i get to read it again i do and so should you.

    I Need Help Deciding

Dont pay attention to my rate becaus i have not read the sample yet and have yet to decide if i want to buy the book (with my daddys money of course). Okay so most of you said you absolutely loved the book but it was slow to progress. I love paranormal romance books but the thing is i dont like reading slow books because if they are slow if i put the book down im most likely not going to pick it back up. Heres the thing im a 14 year old girl that loves books that pull me in and dont let me out until im finished. If i really like a book and i start to read it in class i usually get told more than 3 times to put the book down and sometimes my teachers with threaten to take my book away if i dont put it down. I started to read "The Hunger Games" but couldnt finish it because it was so slow and really frustrated me. I need the help of the ppl who already read this and maybe even the ppl who tolerated The Hunger Games and tell me if this book progresses faster than the Hunger Games if so I REALLY REALLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW SO I CAN GET A JUMP ON READING THIS "AMAZING" BOOK FAST!!!!! Th faster the response the more appreciation i will have for you and if you reply within 30 days of this post i promise to leave a list of reccomendations of books that were so good i cried either because it was the last book in the series and left you at a cliff hanger or because i want to read more, and more, and more!!!!!!! Thank you guys for putting up or reading this enormously long post and to the ppl who respond you dont know how much it means to me and how much i appreciate you taking an interest in my dilemma and i promise to post the list within two weeks of your response. I intend on checking the reviews every day until i get a response.
    A Huge Thank You,
    Your Fellow 14 year-old Bookworm

Ehhh... Not the worst but I wouldn't say it's good

Boy does this book start slow... and progress slowly. The narrator keeps giving hints that something is unique about the main character-- oh you guessed it! She's immortal (already picked that up from the cover). You don't get the full story until about 2/3 the way in. But leading up to it nearly NOTHING happens. By the time the climax happens, it's predictable but does give the book some redeeming qualities. Charity is annoying, at best. She falls too quickly in love and acts way younger than she is. Also, sometimes it seems like a bunch of supernatural characters are tossed in just because they're "hot" in literature right now. The end is left open for a sequel, but I doubt I'll read it just because I can't imagine the story line can get much more trite.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was a little slow in the beginning. But once you know happened to 'Emily' and what's in her past, the story just gets better and better! I cannot wait for the next one, so hurry up with it!!!

    Free

This book is free on Kobo, although it has a different cover, so if you are unsure about buying the whole series you can get it through Kobo and see if you like it. I am actually friends with the author's daughter and think they are really great :-).

    Good Read

This is a good book for reading over the week-end. It's entertaining, although I found myself thinking it was another 'not really a teen-ager, but stuck in high school again' theme. It is a good stand alone book. I have no desire to go any farther with the series, though.

    Ok

Getting really tired of these "supernatural seventeen year old" stories where the heroine is a spunky, not-your-average-girl with an affinity for heavy metal but still has to go to school. Finished this one quickly, but I won't be continuing the series.

    3.5 stars

This story is somewhat reminiscent of the Twilight saga, but with a few little differences. While not completely original, it is well-written. Parts progress pretty slowly, while other sections are a good deal quicker.

Essentially, I just couldn't really get into it. I did finish it because I can't ever partially read a book unless it is god-awful, and though it wasn't my cup of tea, it wasn't bad at all.

I think this story would be liked more by teens who are fans of the Twilight sage, but not looking for too much depth.

    Overall, it was just good.

All right, this was cute, fun, fast and a nice change of pace from immortal teen looking person in angst and whining all the time to some crazy characters, big secrets and happy ending. That whole happy ending thing, that always makes me smile! Thinking the rest of the series is going to be worth reading if they are as easy and fun as this first one was.

    A Real Page Turner!

This first one in the series was quite a surprise to me. Not sure what to expect, it turned out to be a fast-paced story with a few twists & turns involving not-so-normal witches, vampires, shape-shifters, AND immortals! It is a great story line!
