She’s got an independent streak a mile wide. But Chance has a long, long rope.
After a nasty divorce, Lacey Winslow has worked hard to rebuild her life, and guards it with fierce determination. She’s had it up to here with her lurking ex and with macho men in general, including one Chance Bodine. He seems hell-bent on breaching her defenses and claiming her for his own.
Just when she thinks she’s got her life back on track, an attempted robbery brings the police—and Chance—running. Even more annoying, Chance decides she needs protection. His protection.
Chance is in love with Lacey, and he doesn’t care who knows it. Problem is, the last thing Lacy wants is for another man to stake a claim on her hard-won independence. Nevertheless, Chance vows to protect Lacey at all costs—even if he has to protect her from herself to do it.

Enjoyed the exchange between the two - gotta love a heroine that won't take any $@&#, until she melted by a kiss!

I'm definitely a Maggie Casper fan, and I really enjoyed "California Cowboy". Clay and his brother Chance run a ranch and Chance hires Bobbie to help out around the house. Clay's reaction to Bobbie is explosive and the alpha male inside him is screaming 'she's mine.' Unfortunately for him, Bobbie's father was a man who ran over her mother and she thinks Clay is just like him, and she wants no part of him.
Slowly Clay breaks down her resistance and when he discovers Bobbie's a virgin he goes nuts and demands that she marry him. Bobbie refuses to be bullied and stands her ground; it got to the point she had to leave the ranch because of Clay's possessive behavior. It was Bobbie's absence from the ranch that made Clay realize that he loved her and his love was the only thing that stood a chance in changing her attitude.
