Overview

Chances Are

She is his dream come true. He is her nightmare.

Angela Delvecchio has always dreamed of being an LCR field operative. As LCR’s main researcher, she’s helped rescue victims, but always from the sidelines. Until now. Last Chance Rescue has been asked to assist the authorities in apprehending a serial killer terrorizing London. Angela knows this is her time and her mission.

After the murder of his wife, Jake Mallory stopped believing in anything good. Now, as an operative for Last Chance Rescue, he’s found a new purpose but he’ll never let his guard down again. The beautiful and much too vulnerable Angela is a temptation like no other—one he dare not take. Hearing that she’s going to be an operative is a surprise, but Jake is stunned to learn her first assignment will be to bait and trap the Red Rose killer. Assigned to be her partner, Jake knows he wouldn’t have it any other way. He failed the last woman he cared about…he won’t fail Angela.

Angela thought going undercover as an exotic dancer would be the toughest part of the job, and Jake thought keeping his hands off his partner would be his biggest challenge. They were both wrong. Taught to expect the unexpected, Angela faces events she never anticipated and Jake must allow the unthinkable. Now it’s a fight for survival because evil has more than one face and to stay alive, death may be the only option.

I absolutely loved Chances Are! I’m so glad I saved it for a Sunday afternoon when I could just sit and enjoy it with no distractions. I loved catching up with some of my favorite LCR characters. This novella has made me want to do a re-read of the entire series.

Angela is just as awesome as I thought she would be. I’m so happy Christy gave Angela her own story, I learned so much about LCR’s feisty receptionist. Angela’s spirit and loving heart are perfect for Jake. Jake is determined to stay away from Angela despite his attraction to her, but as they work together to take down a killer in London, she works her way under his skin. Jake and Angela’s journey ran me through a gamut of emotions...one minute I thought they were making progress, then the next they had me crying. I love when a book makes me cry, a sure sign I’ve connected with the characters.

Christy can write some of the creepiest villains ever and she doesn’t disappoint in Chances Are. I was so glad to see this creep taken down and get what he deserved.

The ending has me on pins and needles wanting to know what happens next for LCR and with a few questions. I can’t wait to see what Christy has in store for us

Christy Reece has done it again with CHANCES ARE, the 10th insta

Christy Reece has done it again with CHANCES ARE, the 10th installment of her Last Chance Rescue series. LCR has been asked to assist in the capture of the Red Rose Killer, a ruthless serial killer who has been horrifying Londoners for the past year. Angela Delvecchio and Jake Mallory are going undercover to bring this monster down….or die trying
For years, Angela has worked as the assistant and head researcher for Noah McCall, head of a private international corporation called Last Chance Rescue. She has recently crawled out of her world of grief after the sudden death of her family. Now she has the chance she has waited years for….to become a LCR Field Operative……and to show Jake they should be partners in life as well as for LCR!
Jake has had a wounded soul since the death of his wife. After her death he promised himself that he would never let another woman get that close to him or mean that much to him ever again…….until he met Angela. Jake isn’t sure which task will be harder, taking down the Red Rose Killer or keeping things only business with his beautiful partner. One thing he DOES know……he will protect Angela with his last breath!
From Paris to London and back again Christy Reece takes us on a fast-paced journey that leaves readers on the edge of their seats and unable to put the book down. As she chronicles Jake and Angela’s undercover work, the reader is able to immerse themselves in Jake and Angela’s emotional struggles and triumphs. Ms. Reece has a talent for making readers fall in little bit in love with her hero’s and want to be the strong, sexy women that they love.
As with the first nine books in this series, CHANCES ARE hits every note that this reader wants in a Romantic Suspense book…..a hot, steamy Alpha male who knows what it takes to get the job done; a feisty, sexy woman who is not afraid to go toe to toe with her man or show him her vulnerability ; a diabolical villain who, in their insanity, crosses lines that should never be crossed and a storyline that makes you hold your breath, laugh out loud and raises your temperature just enough!!!!

This book is a wonderful addition to the LCR series. We all know

This book is a wonderful addition to the LCR series. We all know and love Last Chance Rescues feisty receptionist Angela. She has finally got her own book. This is a great story with chilling scenes from the villain and smoldering scenes with Angela and Jake. I was so happy to learn Christy was going to continue her LCR series. Her characters are a part of my everyday fictional world. In Chances Are you get to touch base with many of the previous characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has read the LCR series, as well as anyone who might be new to the wonderful world of Last Chance Rescue.

Exciting, emotional and deeply satisfying as usual.

Angela Delvecchio, LCR's computer genius and researcher, is ready to step out from behind the desk and pursue her dream of becoming an LCR field operative. She has the training, all she needs now is the chance to prove herself. She's paired with Jake whom she's lusted for since his first day at LCR. Unfortunately that attraction seems one-sided. What will working in close confines do to the both of them?

London is rocked by a horrific case of serial killings. The perpetrator, a modern day Jack the Ripper, has a type, and Angela fits the profile. It's the perfect opportunity for her to go undercover as a stripper and play the role of the bait.

Jake Mallory is stunned to learn that he'll be partnered with Angela to catch the Red Rose Killer. He can't let his lust for her cloud his judgement in the field. Any distraction could mean the difference between life and death. Can Jake keep Angela safe from the killer and from himself, or will history repeat itself and make him lose the one thing he didn't think he deserved? Love.

    ~*~

The last time I read an LCR book was at the end of 2011. Picking up Chances Are was like a reunion with old friends - it didn't take long to feel the familiarity with the beloved operatives. Though it helps to have read the previous books, this story can stand alone. Ms Reece did a great job of bringing back familiar faces and giving a little background history without a huge info dump. I have read books 1-7 and loved each one. Ms Reece blends suspense and romance while burying the main characters in gritty plots that will test their skills and their emotions at every turn. Taking on themes involving kidnapping, murder and human trafficking, each book is a thrilling ride to the dark side and back. Add to that a slew of sexy alpha males who are tough on the outside but display hidden vulnerabilities that make them swoon-worthy and heroines who can kick butt and you have a recipe for great chemistry.

I adored this pairing of Angela and Jake from the first page. Angela displayed determination, loyalty, stubbornness, but underneath it all she was a romantic girl at heart who dreamed of long walks, candlelight dinners and screaming orgasms. With no surviving family left, LCR was all she had left, so disappointing them was not an option. As a former military man and ex-cop, Jake has seen and experienced evil and betrayal, but nothing haunted him more than the death of his wife. Angela's innocence and vulnerability hold him back from making her his, but that doesn't stop him from finding everything else about her appealing. The story was paced well and flowed smoothly. The love scenes were passionate, romantic and HOT! Of course this story has it's fair share of emotional drama between Jake and Angela, with the mixed signals flying back and forth, but Angela makes huge strides in learning about the consequences of being over-confident, and Luke learns acceptance and forgiveness.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic suspense. If you enjoyed the KGI series by Maya Banks or Cindy Gerrard's Black Ops Inc. or Pamela Clare's I-Team series, then this series is definitely for you.

    I Also Recommend:

Let me start by saying, I don't normally like novellas. They are

Let me start by saying, I don't normally like novellas. They are to short, the characters don't get the attention they need and you are left feeling like you didn't get a complete story. This is not the case with Chances Are. I have wanted Angela's story to be told since Mara stood up for her in Return To Me when she stormed Noah's office. I have waited a long time and I was not disappointed.

Angela is a very complex character and the only man that would be able to get a reign on her would be just as complex, and you find that in the hunky Jake with his haunted past. You know you are reading a good story when you feel like you are visiting with friends and Christy Reece has a way of letting you visit with old friends while meeting new, which she melded expertly in this book. I have often wanted to be a fly on the wall when she is coming up with her villains, she seems to come up with the uber creepy, and this time was no different.

The Last Chance Rescue Series is back with a vengeance. Noah M

The Last Chance Rescue Series is back with a vengeance.

Noah McCall, founder of the fledgling Last Chance Rescue organization, takes a chance on 17 year old, Angela Delvecchio, and hires
her as LCR's receptionist and first employee. Both of her parents are not well and she has two younger siblings so Angela gladly
provides financially for her close knit family.

Shortly, after joining LCR, Angela, ever confident, knows that she wants to be a field operative of the Paris based LCR organization,
rescuing innocents everywhere. She recognizes that she cannot risk leaving her family without support. Over the years, as she
becomes Noah's assistant and the main researcher of LCR, her aspirations to become an operative persist and, she insists that Noah
train her as he does all of his operatives.

Then, her entire family is killed in an automobile accident. Now that she is free to become an operative, she is too devastated.

After about six months, Angela's vitality begins to return and her dreams now include the sexy, emotionally wounded new operative,
Jake Mallory. While they engage in an innocent flirtation, Angela, never shy, lets Jake know that she wants more. Jake is strongly
attracted to beautiful Angela. While he was a cop, his wife was killed and he is convinced that it was his fault. Jake does not want a
permanent relationship and, despite all of her bravado, he knows Angela definitely is a woman who does.

Angela convinces the ever protective Noah to put her in the field. He is reluctant, in part, because it is not a typical LCR rescue mission.
Rather, LCR is called in to help the authorities in London capture the Red Rose Killer. He is a serial killer who kidnaps women with no
evidence of forced entry and leaves a bouquet of red roses at their homes.

Seeing Angela as her old self, Noah agrees and assigns Jake as her partner. Jake is livid that Angela insists on going into the field as
a decoy for a serial killer, but if she is going, he will watch over her. When Jake learns that Angela's cover is as an exotic dancer, he
nearly has a conniption. He is undercover as the owner of the establishment requiring him to watch her dance.

Despite Jake's best intentions, the romance heats up in London. Due to a rookie mistake, Angela and Jake return to Paris.
Unfortunately, no one realizes that the killer has fixated on Angela. He follows her back to Paris. Total mayhem ensues after Angela is
kidnapped and Jake and Noah cannot find her.

Ultimately, Angela proves her ability as an operative and they both realize that the want their hot romance to be forever.

The ending of the book will have you counting the hours until the eleventh book is released!

Chances Are is the tenth book in the LCR series. I prefer to read books in a series in order but it is not necessary. Chance Are is a stand-alone read.

I highly recommend Chances Are to any reader who genuinely enjoys Romantic Suspense, that is, a balance between the two genres.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was another great LCR book. It had me riveted from beginning to end and of course there were surprises along the way. There is going to be some big changes at LCR and I am looking forward to the next ones to find out what they are.  Noah has always been my favorite LCR guy so I was happy that he was a big part of this one.  And getting to know Angela since she has been there since the beginning was a wonderful surprise. Looking forward to learning more about other team members that we haven't got deep into.  I don't want to give anything away, so all I am going to say is you need to read this one. If you haven't read any of the other LCR books, start with this one and you will be hooked. Just be prepared if you are an emotional person like me, there will be some tears in this one, but I totally like when a book grabs me emotionally.
