Publishers Weekly
Teenage sleuth Robyn Hunter returns in her seventh mystery, written at a fourth-grade reading level and first published in Canada. When a up-and-coming hockey player is murdered, Robyn dives into finding out who’s responsible—one of her best friends, Billy, is the prime suspect, and her other best friend, Morgan, was the murdered player’s girlfriend. McClintock keeps tensions high, and Robyn is a winning heroine—fiercely loyal to her friends and the kind of girl who isn’t afraid to wade into the middle of a fistfight. Realism isn’t really the point, but like Nancy Drew and Veronica Mars before her, Robyn’s investigations are addictive. Ages 1118. (Mar.)

Book seven in the “Robyn Hunter” series is an exciting mystery novel focusing on a young girl named Robyn Hunter. Her best friends, Morgan and Billy, have dated for several months when, out of the blue, Morgan dumps Billy for hockey star, Sean Sloane. Billy is an absolute wreck when Morgan breaks up with him and becomes very aggressive toward Sean, starting a fight with him in the cafeteria. Others even suspect that he has destroyed Sean’s locker. When Sean’s mother finds Sean dead on the ice after a late night hockey practice, all fingers point to Billy. Robyn must prove the innocence of her friend Billy and solve the mystery of who actually killed Sean. This nail-biting novel will keep readers on their toes! Norah McClintock does a great job of creating suspense and keeps the reader guessing the whole time. After finding out who the killer is, perceptive readers will realized that McClintock has left small context clues throughout the novel. Young adult readers will find her complex literary elements enticing. This is an exciting read recommended to anyone who loves a great mystery! Reviewer: Valerie Hobbs; Ages 13 up.
