Divided into five parts, the book covers box modeling, poly-by-poly modeling, sculpting, retopologizing, normal mapping, and more. You'll begin by learning the raw basics of Blender, giving you an understanding of how the Blender interface works and how you can manipulate objects in 3D space, as well as how to customize your Blender experience. You'll then get an introduction to some of the modeling features of Blender and how you can manipulate meshes with Blender's various modeling tools, modifiers, and sculpting functionality. In part three you'll move on to the real focus of the book, modeling the character, focusing on the workflow, and various modeling techniques. Part four provides a brief introduction to lighting and rendering characters before the final section of the book walks you through the process needed to prepare the character for complete texturing and how to bake and apply normal maps to a low-resolution version of the character. I have been working with Blender for the past seven months as of last week, and so i decided to expand my horizons in the modelng world by moving on from working just with hard surface modeling to something more organic. With that said i highly reccomend this book for those who want to expand upon their knowledge about the 3D world of Blender. This includes those who are just begining in Blender, and those seasoned artists looking to try something new. Although this book is mainly intended for beginers who want to get a taste of charicter modeling, it is good idea for Blender vetrans to take a look as well, they might end up learning some new ways of doing what was usually a difficult task. Jonathan Williamson does an accepttional job of describing the process of creating a charicter; at first, there are baby steps when he is first introducing you to blender, then as the book progresses and you [the reader] gets more comfortable with the keys and shortcuts, things begin to pick up pace. Until eventually your able to find your way around the interface on your own at lightning speed. all in all this book is worth the $35. like i mensioned before, i have been working with blender for the past seven months, so i know a prety good deal about it, but even with the knowledg i have now, this book still offers up plenty of help that make my modeling experience that much better. this book is a wonderfull addition to any 3D modelers arsenal. i definately reccomend it to anyone, including those who are still unsure on Blender. And if your still unsure about Blender, go to the community, there are literally thousands of people who would love to tell you why Blender is amung all other 3D programs, the best there is. Fantastic job Jonathan! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into creating this book!
