Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Laura J. Brown
Getting along with parents as a teenager is a challenge and friends Craig and Manda know this first-hand. They both have some problems in their families, so much so that they cannot face the attraction and feelings they have for each other. Manda has an over protective mother and an inattentive father. Her father's father lives with the family and needs a lot of assistance that Manda's father refuses to give, so all the work falls on Manda and her mother. Manda's mother gets on her nerves so badly that she plays a mean trick on her mother during a skiing trip. Manda pays the price, by taking care of not only her grandfather, but also her mom. Craig loves his younger brother, but gets tired of chasing him down in the middle of the night when he decides to run away. He understands why though; their mother goes from one bad boyfriend to another. The latest is the father of their baby brother, and he is moving in with them. Craig and Manda want what is best for their families, but just when they both think things cannot get any worst they do. This book is charged, as the title states, with contemporary issues that teenagers face daily. It is sure to strike a nerve with readers and may give young people facing the same type of challenges a way of dealing with their own problems and parents. Reviewer: Laura J. Brown
