Read an Excerpt

Too often people go to a lot of trouble to create a perfect room and stop just before they’ve made it truly theirs. These final steps can include everything from arranging a wonderful tabletop, creating wallscapes, and adding the interest of books, to the smallest touches, such as locating the right scented candle or choosing the perfect fringe for a pillow. Details are like the frosting on the cake, and who doesn’t like frosting best?

Examining the way people dress is an excellent place to study the effect of details. People express who they are and what they like by the things they wear. Bold necklaces show a bold spirit. Cowboy boots and big silver buckles say it all. My sister Francie’s ever curious, outgoing personality shines through her unusual and wonderful glasses. Despite the limitations of jackets and slacks, I can express my love of fabric with my pocket handkerchiefs and bow ties.

In the same way, the details of a room create its identity. The accessories we display, their color and texture, abundance or restraint, similarity or variety, combine to establish a unique personality for each room. The way we put them together is art. It’s what it’s all about.

    DO NOT BUY!

This book is nothing more than a re-hash of Faudree's other books: it is photos of many of his published rooms from different angles. Not for me!

    Beautifully done!

As always, Charles Faudree has enchanted those of us who love Country French decor. His books are beautifully photographed, written and his ideas cannot be surpassed. I wish, however, that he had addressed lampshades and the importance they have with respect to detail. In his previous books especially, matching fabric lampshades seemed to be a finishing touch. This being said, though, I would highly recommend the book for anyone who follows his work and loves Country French!

After awaiting this book, I was actually a little disappointed. I have all of the other Charles Faudree books and love them, but for some reason this one left me wanting more. No as good as the other 3. Worth looking at, but not buying.

    Charles has done it again!

Charles Faudree's books always gets my inspiration juices flowing! I just want him to come to my house and help me, not to mention having lunch and talk about the latest toile fabrics out there! This latest book does not disappoint and is chock full of beautiful settings and his charming comments throughout. A joy!
