Overview

As one of America's top 100 designers, Charles Faudree's interpretation of Country French style has national and international appeal: his clients live throughout the United States as well as in Spain and most recently Barbados. Charles Faudree's Country French Living features his newest room designs. From the entryway to living spaces and private spaces, rooms for entertaining and outdoor spaces, Charles teaches principles of design that make a house a Country French home.

In the luxurious examples here, Faudree shows how to identify a pivotal fabric, a dominant color, or one magnificent antique that will dictate the style and design for a whole room. He turns a private space into a soothing sanctuary, and he brings order and balance to a room with symmetrical groupings that lend formality without stuffiness.

Jenifer Jordan's exquisite photography captures the very essence of Charles Faudree's design sensibility, unfailingly evident in the details--pillows, paintings, books and myriad collections--that finish a room and provide the charm and character so important in a well-designed Country French setting.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
These three books feature the works of professional interior designers based in the United States-Drake in New York, Faudree in Tulsa, and Smith in Los Angeles. Drake, inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame, counts among his clients Madonna and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose official residence, Gracie Mansion, is featured here. He discusses the use of color, texture, and light in his decor. Faudree (Charles Faudree's French Country Signature) presents interiors in a cozy, livable, French country style, with antique European furniture and decorative accessories alongside modern pieces. And Smith, whose celebrity clients include Rupert Murdoch and Rob Reiner (whose homes are also depicted) visits more than a dozen of his clients' homes and offers advice on how to work with a designer, where to find antiques, and how to select color, beds, and window treatments. Each book is filled with color photos that depict previous commissions and text that explains the respective designer's approach to d cor. All three are recommended for large interior design collections. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Private Spaces

Country French living rooms often begin for me with a pivotal fabric, a dominant color or one magnificent antique.

Just one distinctive piece of furniture, such as a towering armoire or an unusual commode, or a great accessory like a grand mirror or painting, will make the rest of the room seem more important. One outstanding piece can change the whole plan for a room. I encourage my clients to build their home around a few classic staples, just as you build a fashion wardrobe.

I make signature pieces a part of my home and cabin and move them from room to room to keep them fresh. A signature piece doesn't have to be expensive. You can get the look without the seventeenth-century armoire. Painted furniture is really beautiful, so in vogue, and often quite reasonable in comparison to pricey antiques. The key is finding a piece you really love and want to live with forever.

    Beautiful!

I use this book constantly for decorating my house. Most of the wallpaper and fabrics I ordered thru my designer were the ones he listed in this book. Simply great if you love the french look.
