Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
This biography of Lindbergh will fill a void in middle-school collections. Short chapters and an overall unintimidating length give it immediate appeal, and the numerous black-and-white photographs are an additional plus. The chronological organization covers Lindbergh's family, his boyhood, his first flight, the celebrated first flight across the Atlantic, his marriage to Anne Morrow, the tragedy of their kidnapped baby, his unpopular visits to Germany and similarly unpopular efforts to prevent World War II, his considerable contributions to aeronautics, and his work on behalf of wildlife conservation. The first chapters occasionally lack variety of sentence structure and vocabulary, but later chapters read smoothly and quickly. Frequent quotes from Lindbergh's autobiography and other books about him create a well-rounded portrait of his scientific and technological talents, as well as his love of nature and gift for lyrical expression. The highlights of his life are presented in an objective and well-organized fashion; this book should be in demand in both school and public library collections. --Phyllis Graves, Creekwood Middle School, Kingwood, TX
