The collection includes Civil War views by both local photography enthusiasts and professionals, and highlights the city's architectural gems. This reprint (the original was published in 1975 by R.L. Bryan Co.) is updated with photos of Hurricane Hugo's destruction. Whitelaw, who collected the photos, was a founding trustee of the Historic Charleston Foundation; Levkoff, who wrote the text, has worked with the Foundation and other preservation organizations.
