Meet the Author

W. Chris Phelps lives on Johns Island, South Carolina, and works in Charleston. Seeing vivid reminders of the city's Civil War experience on a daily basis inspired him to write this book. He is also a member of the South Carolina Historical Society, the Charleston Civil War Round Table, and the Ft. Sumter Camp of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Mr. Phelps is also the author of Charlestonians in War: The Charleston Battalion, published by Pelican.

    wealth of knowledge

    For 6o years I never new I had any Civil War ancestors until my father told me before he died. This ancester I discovered in the Charleston Battalion. Chris sure has filled out a lot of curiosities.

    Fantastic!

    I have an ancestor in this unit, but outside of his service records (which the author explored in depth) Mr. Phelps has scoured the repositories to bring these forgotten men to life. His easy to read style and in-depth research makes this a must have for the Civil War historian or enthusiast!
