In a mystical city, the ruins of a forgotten past will be revealed by one boy and his friends, in Charlie Bone and the Hidden King by Jenny Nimmo. All over the city at night the animals are up. Then in the morning all the animals in the city are gone. When Charlie and his friend go to school the next day, all the other kids are suspicious that Charlie and his friend had something to do with their lost animals. During that week Charlie starts to notice that the shadow in the Red King's Portrait has been moving. Also during that weekend, Charlie catches a glimpse of a girl in a yellow raincoat outside his house and wonders who she is and why she came to his house. In Bloor's Academy there will be an event where the shocking truth will be revealed. The reader will wonder what else will happen in this book?

Charlie Bone is boy with wild hair who is a good leader but is sometimes stubborn and selfish. Charlie cares about others but can put his own needs over others as the hero. He doesn't really change through the series and is the main character of the whole series. He is also one of endowed children, who have extraordinary abilities and are descendants of the Red King. His endowment is that he can travel to places through photographs. The other endowed children that are his friends are Naren, Una, Lysander, Gabriel, Emma, Tancred, Olivia, and Billy. Charlie's other friends that are not endowed are Benjamin and Fidelio and they help a lot in their own way. In Charlie's house there is Amy (his mother), Maisie ( Amy's mother), Paton Yewbean, and Grandma Bone. Paton Yewbean is Charlie's great uncle who owns the house and is also endowed. His endowment is a power booster (can blow up light bulbs) and he sometimes can't control his power so he doesn't come out of the house until night or unless it is an emergency. He is in love with Mrs. Ingledew ( Emma's Aunt) and he deals with the adults on behalf of the kids and he is an advisor for Charlie. Paton doesn't change in the series and he is quite important to Charlie, like a hero. The endowed children that use their gift for evil are Manfred, Idith and Inez, Dorcas, and Joshua. Also Manfred Bloors' family are very evil and make sure to keep everyone in their place. The main villain in this story is someone called the Shadow, The Count, or Mr. Noble. When he was trapped into the portrait he was called the Shadow, but when he is in the world of the living he is known as Mr. Noble. Mr. Noble is an enchanter who enslaves people's hearts, especially women. Those are the major characters in this book.

Charlie Bone and the Hidden King is a great book filled with adventure, mystery, and magic. What make this story so good is that the mystery is subtle and in the plot there are other elements besides just mystery. Some other elements are the social life of the students, events happening in the city, and daily lives of the students. There are a lot of details about the characters, so I felt like I know them. I also like that there is a lot of diversity in the characters, such as their cultures, personalities, looks, and abilities. The plot has a lot of up and downs, twists and turns, which makes it hard to predict what will happen next. This is the fifth book in the Children of the Red King series and it is one of the best books in the series.

Charlie Bone and the Hidden King (Children of the Red King Series #5)

This is the best book in the series!! I read it in less than 5 days. There are so many unexpected twists and turns. I couldn't put the book down, and I couldn't believe what I was reading. Jenny Nimmo is an incredible author. I already read the amazing 6th book and can't wait until the 7th comes out.

This book is incredible!! So many twists and turns and unexpected surprises. This is a great book for anyone to read. It's so interesting!!!!! I couldn't put the book down wanting to know what happens next. I kept turning the pages. I mean between the mysteries & magic and the relationships with Tancred and Lysander & the surprising things Miss Crystal reveals, it's so amazing. There were things I never expected. This book is amazing. Jenny Nimmo is an excellent author.

Charlie Bone and the Hidden King Is a great book for kids and adults. Charlie is kind of like Harry Potter because both of them are wizards, and the book involves magic. Charlie is one of the endowed children. Charlie is trying to find the Red King and the animals. Charlie goes into a type of wizard portal to find Rembrandt. Rembrandt is an animal that only Billy Raven can understand what he is saying. Billy can communicate with animals. One of Billy¿s ancestors conversed with ravens that sat on a gallows where dead men hung. For this talent he was banished from his village. Billy can talk to ¿The Flames¿ but he knows he¿s not supposed to. What Charlie is doing is like a mission, because he is looking for his father. Read all of the Charlie Bone series, and see what happened to his father! This book was great. I mostly like the magic too. I would love to recommend this book to a friend. A reader that likes Harry Potter, would like the Charlie Bone books!

I admit this is the second book I read of the Charlie bone series. It's awesome! Charlie meets a peculiar man named Bartholomew and his family. Bartholomew claims he knows Charlie's father. Will Charlie finally meet his father in this epic tale of misfortunes, terrifying secrets, and twists?

Thsi book is great. At first when i read it's chapter 1. I was bored. I put it away and played my Nintendo DS. Then, when i graduate out of my class, i was sad. so i brought out this book and read. I finish it in 2 days, and i got a prize to go to Great America.

A Final Quest To End All Evil

Summary- Charlie Bone wakes up one morning to find that something was different. He found out as he wondered around town, that there were no animals! Everyone was devastated to find that their pets were gone. Charlie finds out that someone had found the Mirror of Amoret. That person also freed the evil shadow of the Red Kings Portrait. The shadow is after his mom, and when Charlie tries to warn her, she denied it because she had already been enchanted. The shadow was many things, as well as an enchanter. With the help of Naren, and her father Bartholomew Bloor, Charlie finds where the animals were and brings them back to town. As Charlie gets closer and closer to finding his father, he realizes that his mom is the only one that remembers him, and is keeping him alive. Charlie¿s mom was falling in ¿love¿ with the enchanter, and takes off her wedding ring, and decides that she is going to marry the enchanter. Charlie is his dad¿s only hope. Can he stop the shadow, and clear the Red Kings tears? I loved the action in this book. The book was actually a little scary because of the shadow and the danger it causes, but I love the ending. It ties up all the loose ends. This book is part of a series, and it is the last of the five books. This book is very enjoyable, and is recommended to anyone who loves mysteries and action.

Capturing!

Another great adventure with Charlie Bone and his friends. I can't wait till the next book in the series comes out this June. The ending leaves you wanting more. Jenny Nimmo did a Wonderful job when she wrote this book but that's not to surprising.

This book is really great!! I love to read fantasy books like Harry Potter and also love fiction. But these books are really interesting and full of adventure! I haven't read the 5th yet but i am planning to read it once i hunt it down. :)

Charlie Bone rocks

The Charlie Bone series is very adicting and I enjoy reading it. Fans of Harry Potter will love it.

The Charlie Bone Series are absolutely amazing. Next to Harry Potter: They are my favorite books to read. Usually I dont liek reading books too much when the characters are younger than me. Im Fifteen, but I absolutely love Charlie Bone! I have not read this book yet, infact I didnt even know she had come out with a fifth book. But you can bet, I'll get it within the month, and I will be finished in a week =)

A Fantastic Book

The Charlie Bone series is extremely good. I have enjoyed the book for its action and because it is quite funny. Normaly I am a picky reader but these books have just pulled me in right away. I recomend it to kids who love fantasy like me.

The best book ever

I thought this book was awsome. I started righting it in 7th grade and now I can t stop. I wish there were more books not just 5 of Childern of the red king. My favorite part is when Charile finds his Dad.

Jenny Nimmo is one of my favorite authors. She has a lot of creativity, imagination, and more! This is one of her best books she's ever written! I highly reccomend this book. It's full of fun, fantasy, suspense, and creative scenes.

an excellent read

a fantastic book that will keep people reading the charlie bone series

OMG

this book is so thrilling i read it in a week. I just couldn't put it down. I havd to find out what was going to happen next and the ending is just perfect. Of course you have to read the other books before this one but it was just worth it and I loved all the books before this one. I hope the author keeps coming out with such good books like this series because I loved it and would like to read more of her work.

A close to a mystery!

Finally it has come to a close...the end. All the books were a great read. Kids will be kids but these kids are magical with unordinary problems. You find out the legned and how it all ends for Charlie. A great children's book!
