Charlotte in Paris
Charlotte in Paris By: Annie Bryant Charlotte in Paris by Annie Bryant is about a girl named Charlotte. She lived in Paris on the Seine, and she found a bright orange that she named named Orangina (a popular soft drink in Paris). One day some boys chase Orangina away. Charlotte has to leave for America with her widowed father, and doesn¿t have time to find Orangina. A few years later her friend in Paris (Sophie) sees her cat and invited Charlotte to her home, so Charlotte is off to Paris again. She not only has trouble-finding Orangina but she also finds a priceless sketch in her messenger bag. I enjoyed this book very much. It was very exciting because it was a mystery. So there was a lot of suspense, which I love. For example Charlotte must figure out how a very old and valuable original Picasso sketch in her bag. Another thing I liked about the author was that she had a cliff hanger at the end of many of her chapters. For example at the end of the chapter when Charlotte found the Picasso sketch, Charlotte and Sophie were completely shocked and scared, which triggered me to move on to the next chapter. This book was good, but It had a basic plot. That made the book somewhat predictable. The author had believable characters too. They were just like regular twelve year old girls. They had a variety of interests: sports, fashion, and art. They also had defining characteristics like being sloppy, organized, and overly dramatic. I could believe these characters were real. Another really good thing about the characters is that it has a lot of description. From the description, the author used I had a clear picture of what the characters looked like and what they were wearing for example ¿gauzy orange ribbon¿ and ¿Knitted hat in a rich royal purple¿ When I read sentences like this I could see exactly what the things were. The ending was average. Charlotte ended up finding what she went to Paris to look for, but she decided that Orangina is a cat that belongs with the vegetable seller in the market¿and in Paris. I wish that Charlotte would have taken Orangina because he was so eccentric and Charlotte really loved him, (for going all the way to Paris to look for himJ) The main problem was very interesting. It was definitely that she found a Picasso sketch in her bag and she needed to find out who did it and why. She could have gone to Juvenile Court if she didn¿t sort it out in the end. This made the book very exciting and hard to put down. There wasn¿t anything special about the author¿s syle. She had a story about a girl who is on a search for her cat. It was somewhat boring in that way. The author had a range of vocabulary, I learned many new words, like Orangina, and many land marks in Paris that I never knew existed. So I actually learned something from a fiction book besides a moral. Some things were just too farfetched like finding a Picasso picture in her bag. I like the author most of the time except the examples about how ridiculous some of the things were. This book was decent. It was somewhat hard to believe in places but otherwise a well written book. I would recommend this book to any girl who likes mystery and also to a girl who likes have adventure and one who would like to learn a little more about Paris. To conclude this book had a lot of positive qualities. It had a good plot and a good setting. Also there was mystery and suspense which made this book incredibly exciting. Finally, this book was well written. Any girl who likes mystery would love this book.
