Jim Brandenburg's photographs have won many national and international awards, and his work was included in "Life Magazine Collector's edition: The World's Best Photographs 1980-1990." Brandenburg was twice named "Magazine Photographer of the Year" by the National Press Photographer's Association (NPPA). In 1991, he was the recipient of the World Achievement Award from the United Nations Environmental Programme in Stockholm, Sweden.

    Inspiring

    'Chased by the Light' and caught by surprise

    Before it was a book it was a feature article in the National Geographic Magazine. My breath was taken away by the beauty of the pictures. Learning that Brandenburg, in order to get back to the roots of his craft had challenged himself to take just one photo--just one shot--each day made the article more a miracle than a photo essay. When I found it in this beautiful book form I had to have it. I am now buying it for gifts.

    outstanding

    i bought this as a gift for my father, an amateur nature photographer himself, but couldn't resist taking a peek before giving it to him. i found myself trying to brush a bit of leaf off of a ruffed grouse's face. brandenburg inspires me to pick up a camera and see what i encounter.
