The number-one New York Times-bestselling author delves into the world of elite firefighters who thrive on danger and adrenaline-men and women who wouldn't know how to live life if it wasn't on the edge.

There's little as thrilling as firefighting-at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are in Rowan's blood: her father is a legend. She's been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday. At this point, returning to the wilds of Montana for the season feels like coming home-even with reminders of the partner she lost last season still lingering.

Fortunately, this year's rookie crop is one of the strongest ever-and Gulliver Curry's one of the best. He's also a walking contradiction, a hotshot firefighter with a big vocabulary and a winter job at a kids' arcade.

Everything is thrown off balance when a dark presence lashes out against Rowan, looking to blame someone for last year's tragedy. Rowan knows she can't complicate things with Gull-any distractions in the air or on the ground could mean the end-but if she doesn't find someone she can lean on, she may not make it through the summer. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Some people find the meaning of their life on the beach; others in the office. For second-generation Missoula smoke jumper Rowan Tripp, fire is her element. Not even the death of her partner last year could change that, but this year, there are other complications. One arrives in the well-toned body of rookie firefighter Gulliver Curry. Rowan finds herself deeply drawn, yet puzzled by Gull's enigmatic ways. Her unforeseen passion unnerves her, but there is a closer threat at hand: An arsonist intent on hiding other crimes is loose in the wilderness. Every blaze rustling in the wind brings someone closer to death?. Nora Roberts at her best.

I love my Nook; however, I could just as easily purchased the same books in store for at least $1 cheaper. I think the prices are starting to get ridiculous. The whole point of purchasing the Nook was to save money and space. So far, the only thing i am saving on is Space because i am paying more for the books than i would in store. The prices should at least be the same as they would be in store

Chasing Fire is a very good read. The story line is new one that Nora Roberts explored. Roberts did a very thorough research about smoke jumpers and she portrayed them in a way that I would be able to understand their angst, tribulations, and success when they fought and exstinguish a fire. Very well written, and you get a bonas with Ro's father falling in love. Totally recommend this book even though the ebook is so expensive! If you're not willing to pay for the ebook, get the paperback when it comes out! You don't want to miss out on Roberts' new book!

Roberts has done it again. Rowan and Gull are fabulous together, and the plot was solid. Her books always leave me waiting impatiently for her next.

I am a huge Nora Roberts reader, but if I am going to spend these prices on a book it will not be an e-version but one I can touch and share. I have found that I am buying less books now that I have the Nook. I feel will only download ones the same or cheaper than I can buy at my local stores. Most of the NookBooks are the same price as the published prices for regular books.

I am having a hard time reading this book. I would like to see something unique - not the same old characters with different names in different settings. All her characters are rough and tough, hard working, harder partying - especially the women. They are becoming obnoxiously arrogant. And I am really tired of the dialogue. I would like to occasionally see a character talk like a real person. I have loved her books in the past - there is nothing she has written that I have not read - but I'm not sure I care enough about these characters to even finish the book.

the more and more i bought i kept noticing the prices getting higher and higher until a lot of them passed the soft cover price. i was sold by the fact that they are or were cheaper than actually purchasing the book. at the present there is almost no reason to own the nook. it is in fact, in a lot of cases, with the books i read to purchase them in store because its cheaper and then i have a "real" lend me book. most of the books on nook are not lendable and the ones i can lend are in fact not lendable in the sense they try to sell on. its deceptive. dont get me wrong i still love my nook but the balance is shifting. reading what i wnat to read while in public without people nosing about is still worth something.

I enjoyed this book so much! I have read most of Nora Roberts's books! This one has great characters. Interesting story!

Love Nora Roberts and the way you feel like you really know the charachters by the end of a book. I felt like this one was just a little all over the place with too many different charactors and the end was too easy to figure out. I liked it ok but it was not a favorite.

A good edition to Ms Roberts/J.D Robb's mammoth volume of work. Characters to invest heart and soul, a quick, interesting storyline with the usual excellent research. Another winner. Moving on to a serious objection to the bulk of the reviews: QUIT whining about your ebook while giving NO book review! This ain't the place! Flagging every one...

Nora Roberts is hands down my favorite author. I would've given a 5 star rating except for one aspect of this story. The protagonist in the story behaves the way he does due to a manipulative woman who basically messed with his head and leading to his downfall. As there are far too many manipulative people in the real world, the book left me with unsettling feelings regarding those toxic people we all have in our lives. Otherwise, the plot is strong, romance is great, and we get to learn a lot about what it's like to be a fire jumper. Scary stuff!

Excellent. Nora never fails me. Her male leads are everything you would want in a man and than some. This book is awesome, read it in one day. It does not make sense to just keep going READ IT.

A chip off the old block of her legendary dad, since she turned eighteen, Rowan Tripp has been a Missoula, Montana Zulies smoke jumper who parachutes from a plane with her comrades in arms to land in the middle of an out of control blaze. She loves her job, loves being on the edge and the adrenaline rush, but mostly she relishes helping to save lives and property. This year is different as there are more fires, deaths including her partner, and injuries than since she joined. It is also the year in which she meets rookie Gulliver "Gull" Curry, who falls in love with Rowan. She has feelings for the newcomer with an Ivy League vocabulary, but fears them because love hurts and he may not have the staying power she would need. Yet together they share danger and desire while trying to end the fiery reign of a maniacal arsonist with a vendetta against the Zulies. Once again Nora Roberts affirms she is one of the best romantic suspense authors on the market for the past two decades even with a theme used many times before (see Deadly Heat by Cynthia Eden). A major part of the freshness comes from having the lead female as the experienced mentor and the male as the rookie in training; however the key comes from the author's ability to tell an exhilarating tale in which readers will be jumping from planes into an inferno. Loaded with action especially the drops into the infernos and filled with a fiery romance, fans will believe they are in Big Sky country as a smoke jumper. Harriet Klausner

The one star is not for the price as I got it from the library and am glad I did! The one star is for BORING!! I don't remember reading about how old Gull is but his character acts like he just got out of High School and Ro's character was just irritating. Needless to say I couldn't bring myself to finish it and turned it back in for some other poor soul to check out

I love Nora, and i really love JD Robb....and i couldn't wait for another book from Nora to come out and to download it on my nook. And i started reading, and was surprised how long it took me to get into it...and then once i started reading it, how quickly i figured out who done it. There was nothing original about the mystery. What i did like, was the secondary story, about Rowans father and his girlfriend. That was a nice little touch. But i think Nora is spinning out books so fast, she is losing her touch of uniqueness and they are all starting to sound a like.

I loved the characters, loved the fact that Rowan was a strong, take charge woman, and that Gull could handle it. The suspense was great.I liked it so much I just might go out and by the hardcover.

I am speaking from a smokejumper's wife's point of view. Although I didn't care for the language, the smokejumper terminology and processes were basically right on the money. The firefighting chapters were once again a reminder of why smokejumper wives live a near nervous breakdown existance every summer. It is little known that training, teaching, and preparing the base begins as much as four months before the actual first fire call sends them flying--literally. A grueling three-four month fire season can send a smokejumper home somewhat shell-shocked and ready to start physical training for next season. As a smokejumper's wife, the book is causing a few extra nightmares and a reminder of the sacrifice our guys make to pick up the cell phone and call us before they pass out as soon as they go off duty. Thanks, Nora, for the great research. Oh...but one thing. Jumpers DO NOT jump right NEXT to the fire. It is very unlikely a jumper's parachute will drift into the fire. Hiking into the fire from the jump spot is the norm. IF you want to feel the fire riding your back, the smoke in your eyes and lungs, and the exhaustion that can only come from a mission impossible, this may be the read for you.

I love the way Roberts writes her characters and stories so that I feel I understand their way of life & circumstances. Though I am sure the real life of a smoke jumper is much more strenuous and stressful than she was able to relay, I was able to get a glimpse of something I have never before read about. Her characters, Rowan and Gull, balance each other in a realistic way and the camaraderie between the whole team was enough to make me wish she were doing a series to cover some of the other characters. On a side note, it would be nice if people would rate the BOOK not the price. I love reading honest reviews of the books before I pick them up and feel it is unfair to rate the book low because of the price.

I loved this story from the beginning. The chemistry between Rowan and Gull was as hot as those fires they put out! I got a better understanding of just what fire jumpers do. An amazing storyline!

I agree with the other posters. Why should we pay $12.99 for an electronic book? Disappointed in B&N and some of their prices.

Rowan Tripp has literally followed in the larger than life footsteps of her famous Missoula Smoke Jumper firefighter father "Iron Man Tripp", but that's okay because it's the only pair of fire retardant boots she wants to wear. She's trained hard for her position and the last thing she needs is trouble, the kind that comes from rookie Gulliver Curry. Gulliver has idolized Iron Man Trip and is training to be a "Zullie" because of him, he's no stranger to firefighting having been a hotshot firefighter before, what he didn't count on was his instant and combustible attraction to Iron Man's daughter. But Ro and Gull have more to worry about than the heat between them, there's danger lurking and they have to depend on each other to find it before it burns them alive. Nora Roberts puts out more books a year than any author I know, how does she keep them fresh without sounding like you could interject words from one novel to the next. Well however she does it, she does it like no one else. She starts with a tale that could be the headline news from any major network or the ticker on the bottom of the CNN screen. Then she goes us one better with descriptive narrative that lets her readers be right in the line of fire with the characters one minute and feeling the heat of lust in the next. Take her characters next as each one in this story could easily have their own novel they're that good and that interesting. Her hero Gull and heroine Ro are two people who will light up the pages of the read like a fire lights up a virgin forest. The romance is combustible as these two stumble their way to their happy ever after. The love scenes will scorch so be sure to have your extinguisher handy. This novel would easily make a great first of a trilogy or a series and yet we learn enough about every character to quench us. If you love Nora Roberts she won't let you down with this read. If you've never read her you must be living under a rock, so come out and join the millions of her fans everywhere and be delighted, be thrilled and be entertained. This is a definite must read as it combines romance, suspense and action adventure and will be a hit with all fans of those genres.
