Overview

Ricki England, recently divorced from her husband, finds a support group for women in problematic relationships which soon becomes an activist group, Women Aware and Responsive (WAR), demanding any act they conceive against women and minorities be set right. Evolving from this group is a smaller, core group consisting of Ricki and her two closest friends, which becomes a self-proclaimed vigilante group that steps in when WAR cannot accomplish what it has passively set out to do. The book follows the relationship that develops between Ricki and a homicide detective and her ex-husband, with whom she is still in love. The book tracks the escapades of the three-member vigilante group, who deal with various situations involving both men and women. Interwoven throughout are humorous predicaments in which Ricki finds herself as she seeks to attain her goal to live life to its fullest.

This hilarious look into the life of Ricki England, a woman suffering a pre-midlife crisis, is such fun. Ricki is quirky, a leader who would rather be a follower, and someone who is trying to find herself through rather abnormal means. Her relationship with her ex-husband turns from angry to sizzling. The issues her support group, WAR, deals with are realistic and portrayed with sensitivity. Some chapters are side-splitting funny. You'll laugh with this one - I gurantee it. And maybe cry a little. Fabulous book, one I had a great deal of fun reading.

On the back cover of Chasing Horses, the author says she likes to write about quirky Southern women. I know first hand about the South and Southern women. I'd say she caught the nuances just right. Cherokee England - Ricki to her friends - is divorced from a husband she still loves and searching for some meaning in her life. Ricki and Danny England were high school sweethearts, married young, and produced a son who's reached the age of 17. How the fire that always flared between them died out, Ricki hasn't figured out. She still misses Danny, but he has a new woman in his life and is planning a second marriage. Ricki tries to face her life with humor and courage, but it isn't always easy. Activities with Women Aware and Responsive (WAR) fill the void. She and her fellow vigilantes step in when public WAR activities fail. That Ricki keeps herself in hot water with these covert activities is an understatement. Danny is a politician who aspires to climb the ladder of success. Ricki's dabbling in slightly illegal vigilanteism brings his fiery temper to a boil, and introduces her to a sexy, charming detective with the Knoxville Police Department. Sam. Both literally and figuratively, with Sam, Ricki adds a notch to her bedpost. She figures, if Danny can play around then I can too. Sam isn't the last notch she adds to her bedpost either. As Ricki fights injustice on all fronts with WAR, and experiments with expanding her sexual experience, she reclaims Danny's favors and attention. Chasing Horses is a lesson Ricki learns at last: The best way to catch a horse is not to chase him. Ms. French's novel is a mix of dark truths and humor, romance and thriller, with a little dash of pathos. I enjoyed it. This book is for mature readers due to spicy sexual content.

In Her book CHASING HORSES, Christy Tillery French skillfully uses action and dialog to move you through the pages of this feisty, irreverent and sometimes bawdy adult fairy tale. This book captures the reader¿s attention and holds it to the end. I predict a bright future for this author. Beverly J Scott author of ¿Righteous Revenge¿
