Elizabeth Grossman, an acclaimed journalist who brought national attention to the contaminants hidden in computers and other high tech electronics, now tackles the hazards of ordinary consumer products.     Chasing Safety and Health

    "Chasing Molecules" starts with global examples of how everyday products have far-reaching effects. This is not a scare tactic though, instead it is a more conscious view of the world where we now live. Elizabeth Grossman goes on to show what people and countries are doing to stave off global problems. She introduces the concept of green chemistry, which is about making a safe product from start to finish. Grossman also gives practical examples to reduce risk from unhealthy chemicals in daily life. Thankfully, she points out that natural does not necessarily mean safe, something that is either suggested by some product advertising or assumed by some consumers. The language is easy to understand, but the book would benefit from a glossary of terms and diagram of the chemical structures discussed.
