This is a very readable book about family life. How parents try to do what they think is best for their children. Aside from the supernatural aspect of the book the underlying theme is a good character study. Please take the time to read this book. I do recommend it.

What to say about this wonderful book? When I read, I enjoy losing myself in the atmosphere, finding that I can "see" what is being played out before me on the page. This book and this talented author have that just ability. I found that I needed to read more and more. This was a book that I could not put down. With each chapter, a little more peeled back and revealed. The characters grow and develop. To me they felt like real people; like people I could know, not some contrived character created to do amazing and astounding things as often seen in the popular literature. They experience true pain and hurt, but they also are capable of receiving and giving love, even for feeling hope. There is so much more beyond the surface of these characters. Utterly beautiful, completely stunning, sexy sizzling shifters, spectacular, no matter what worlds I'll use I don't feel I can make this book justice. it is in time like these, when I have read a masterpiece like this, that I simply adored. I wish I had magic powers so I could simply convince everyone to read this hypnotic book. Their love story is so beautiful. The way it started, the way it grows, the way it blossoms... this book deserves to be read and enjoyed. I would STRONGLY suggest this book to any of my friends. It's an incredible love story I cannot say enough good things about it and I cannot wait to read the next one! I received a gift copy of this book in exchange for an honest, non-reciprocal, review.

The caste system is alive and semi-functional in the shifter world. In modern day Las Vegas, Sam is an unwilling participatant in a barbaric ritual that is decide who will be her mate. Will the chivalrous Chase, so below her station be victorious? Or will she be forced to spend the rest of her life with someone who only wants her because of political gain? Although falling a bit short in the romance department due to it’s short length, Chasing Sam is action packed and filled with enough drama to make this a very promising start to a series you do not want to miss.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Krystal Shannon truly delivered with this story. Sam is an independent woman/wolf who plans on becoming a doctor, not becoming a ruling entity for her pack. Chase is your average working man/wolf enjoying life. The instant attraction between the two scares them but is worth investigating for both of them. Of course, there is major family drama trying to keep the two apart. She is after all royalty and he is not. I like that the shifters are not governed by instinct, and that their animal side is a seperate and distintive personality that they converse with. Chasing Sam is funny and smart without being too wordy. This book was great to read and I did not want to put it down to run errands or cook. I finished it and went directly into the next one. Yay.

Short read, but highly entertaining. Wish the ending cleared up some of the questions brought up in the book. But still enjoyed it.

I loved the story. I hated that it was only about 60 pages. Felt like i was left hanging. I looked at the next book in the series and it is a story about Scott one of the minor characters in this book. I wanted a continuation of this story. I gave it a 3 only because there was so much more of the story to be told.

It is best that a book leaves me wanting more, as opposed to wondering if it will ever end. This one left me wanting more. It is a complete story, fairly short, (68 pages on my Nook), yet left room to be fleshed out and expanded upon if the author so desires I wish she would! Frankly, even though it is what I call a "light read," I enjoyed it very much. It avoided one of my personal pet peeves: game playing between love interests. The way the author tells it, I almost believe shifters are real!

This is a 60 page short story. In my opinion the author should have made this into a full length novel and put more story and interaction between all the characters. This was a good start and kept me reading.....but left me with the feeling that I wanted more out of the story and the people in the story....that is why I only gave it 3 stars instead of 5.

Quick read, although I would have loved to hear about the reaction from her family and how it would affect them. Otherwise, pretty good.

RATING 4.5 STARS Chasing Sam is book one in the Vegas Mates series by Krystal Shannan. This book was generously provided to me by the author for an honest review. Samantha, or Sam, Demakis is twenty-five years old and has been studying for her medical degree. Sam is a wolf shifter and her family is old money is Las Vegas. Sam has begrudgingly agreed to come home for the holidays, not realizing that her parents had something planned for her for this trip. Something she wasn’t going to like at all. Chase Michaels is also a wolf shifter and lives in Vegas. He is a military veteran just returning from deployment. He and Sam accidently meet at the airport and there is an instant attraction, an instant chemistry that has both their inner wolves waking up and taking notice. Is it possible that they could be each other’s intended mate? There is an old tradition, one rarely used anymore except by the Demakis family, that says that when a female turns twenty-five, she is to participate in the hunt. That her father will choose suitable mates and that they will hunt her. Whoever catches her, wins her. But Sam doesn’t want this. She wants to finish medical school. She has plans. What about Chase? They’ve just met but she knows he felt the same thing she did. Would he want to participate in the hunt? He could be killed. The risk would be too high. Would her father even accept Chase in to the hunt since his family is of a ‘lower’ stature in his eyes? This is a very short story but I loved it. The way the daughters were regarded in this family was appalling and I loved the way Chase fought for Sam. It was an exciting book from the beginning to the end. The hunt itself definitely had some surprising aspects to it that I think might hint to a future book in the series. This was fantastic and I look forward to the next book in the series, Saving Margaret.

Samantha, Sam, has been in med school and did not want to come home to visit. As a royal bloodline wolf she is expected to have a mate chosen for her per tradition. She is nothing like her aristocratic parents and wants to be able to mate with someone of HER choosing. Chase has served three tours with the Army Rangers and is home for the holidays to visit his family. He bumps into Sam at the airport and their inner wolves feel an instant connection with each other. But, he is not of royal descent and Sam doesn’t want him to put himself in danger in order to win the right to mate with her. I love Sam. She is strong willed, independent, and has a good heart. She has been in medical school so that she can get her degree and serve with the organization Doctors without Borders. Unlike her snooty parents who only see her as a prize to give away to the wolf that meets their high standards to be her mate. She wants nothing to do with mating and settling down. Chase is a lot older than Sam, but as a shifter he does not age. He has never wanted to settle down and mate with anyone until meeting Sam. He is strong, sweet, and will face any obstacle to win the Chase for Sam. This is a well written story featuring a lot of different characters and personalities. Sam’s mother is pure evil. Her sisters all want their own freedom, but are afraid of betraying their parents. The chosen wolves/men were a bunch of overzealous idiots all trying to win the right to Sam’s heritage. For such a short story, it sure packed a lot of elements within it. I’m curious to see where the rest of this series goes. *Copy provided for review.

Spoilers: The hero doesn't actually exert any effort to win her. Somebody else arranges for them to meet. Someone else eliminates his opponents. All he does is get beaten up.

I was really feeling this book, from the beginning I was rooting for Chase and Sam. I loved how Sam stood up for herself but still held some respect for her parents, even though they didn't deserve any. I enjoyed the brotherly banter between Chris and Chase. The initial attraction and ensuing passion between Chase and Sam was amazing. When did I stop enjoying this book? Hmmm, well when I didn't get any answers as to why Renata, Sam's mother, felt such an intense dislike towards her own daughter! I understood the animosity between the families, after all there has to be some kind of hierarchy, no matter how ridiculous the notion seems. However, it was just so strange not to mention wrong, how the mom hated her child. Enough to make her go through a hunting ritual, enough to actually strike her and attempt to attack her. She looked at her daughter with hate and spoke to her with such disdain, she made it her mission to make sure Sam didn't end up with Chase even though it was so obvious they were mates. Then the book ends and I still don't know why the hate towards her daughter, I don't know her parents reactions to the outcome of the mate hunt? Its like the author got tired of writing and decided to rush the ending right there in the middle of the woods, which isn't saying much since the book is only like 70 pages or so. I felt so cheated, as the story line is actually very good and it was quite an enjoyable read with really likable characters.. SR
