Overview

Recommended for ages 18 & up due to strong language, explicit sexual situations, and violence.

He’s trying to protect his heart…

She’s a shell of the girl she once was…

Can he chase away the demons threatening to destroy her?

Mackenzie Delano craves control. After tragedy strikes during her freshman year of college, she compensates for the helplessness she felt by micro-managing every aspect of her life, from her business life to her social life…to her love life. But she wasn’t expecting to cross paths with a mysterious man who seems to invade her every thought.

Tyler Burnham has been living his life with one rule in mind…never fall in love. Focusing solely on his career, he is able to remain a detached observer of life… Until a case is dropped in his lap, forcing him to form an intimate relationship with a sharp-tongued woman in order to obtain the location of a man deemed an enemy of the State.

When Tyler finds himself falling for Mackenzie, will he be able push his feelings aside and recover the information he needs? Or will he put the mission and their lives at risk to follow his heart?

***Note - while Chasing The Dragon is a spin-off of the Beautiful Mess series where readers first meet the character of Tyler, it is not necessary to have read those books in order to read this, although there will be a very slight spoiler of something that happens in the final book of the Beautiful Mess series, Gorgeous Chaos***

Tyler Burnham meets his match when he is assigned to a case involving Mackenzie Delano. Six months of preparation, six months of studying her, so that he can get close to Mack for information he thinks she has, still does not prepare Tyler for this sassy mouthed lady. Getting close to her is easy, keeping his heart out of it, proves to be impossible. Mackenzie has lived a very sheltered life, filled with heartache, and more questions than answers. She only has a couple of close friends, Brayden and Jenna, and as friends go, they are absolutely the best. Mack lives her life according to her own timetable, with strict control over everything. Tyler must tear down her walls, get her to fall for him, and try to uncover the information that he needs from her without her finding out what he is really doing. The more Tyler learns the more he thinks things are not what they seem, things are not adding up and he feels the need to protect Mackenzie, against what he is not sure. If you love romantic suspense then this is a must read for you. It is loaded with love, lies, suspense, and intrigue. You won't be able to turn the pages quick enough. Be prepared to fall in love with Mackenzie's friends, also with Meatball and Griffin, the fur babies in this book. Alexander Burnham also makes a couple of appearances in this book, and once again I wanted to throttle him. Now on to book two, I cannot wait to see how this story ends!!

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book, but thank god I came to my senses and bought it. There aren't many authors who have that little something that lets you know that they love to write. T.K. Leigh is one of those authors. She has the ability to give her readers what they want and so much more. Brilliantly written with interesting characters, Chasing the Dragon is one of those books that suck you in and keeps you interested until the very end. Filled with some angst, lies, suspense, secrets, betrayal, passion, lust, and of course love, Chasing the Dragon will leave you gasping for more.

Sigh. I am really sad that I don't know how this story ends and that I have to wait until October when the next book comes out. The author does a great job on this story line. This book can be read alone of coupled with the A Beautiful Mess series. If you read it as a stand alone you will be introduced to a few of the characters from the books before and it might spoil the other books for you by telling you the outcome of something that happened. I can't recommend this book, or the series before it enough. It draws you in. I love this series because it is older people, in their late 20's, early 30's, it is nice to not read about YA. This author is awesome with the way she creates her characters, the way she makes you want what they are getting. This is a must read.

Fast pace read was wonderful I couldn't get enough details to the main characters and loved every single minute of that. The mystery aspect of the story really drew me in deep I couldn't help trying to figure out what was going on of course with all the twist and turns it became hard to figure out the end before I actual reached it. I wish I could give more details out about this story but it's one of those that are a MUST READ!! ***I received this story for free in exchange for an honest review, see more of my review @ http://jmhoward2007.blogspot.com ***

This book was amazing. The main characters Mackenzie and Tyler are fantastic. This book has mystery, love, romance, danger, and hot men. They both have been through some tough things. They have closed themselves of to the possibility of love. Tyler works with his brother at their security firm. They have taken a case and Mackenzie becomes an asset. Tyler figured he could get her to trust him and tell him things. The easiest way to do that would be to date her. He never expected to fall in love with her. Now he needs to decide what to do. Does he put her safety above everything else or does he do what he originally set out to do and just get the info? Mackenzie had to move in the middle of night when she was a little girl. She had to have a new name and a new life. She didn’t understand why though, now all these later she still goes by that new name and has made a life for herself. She still doesn’t know why she had to go into hiding and get a new name. She has been burned before her first year in college. She dated Charlie and found out the only reason he was dating her was to get info on her dad. She closed herself off after that. She vowed to never let someone in so that she wouldn’t have to worry about getting hurt again. Here comes Tyler and he manages to get under her skin no matter how hard she tries to fight it. Her friends encourage her to give it a try. She is never go to find love if she doesn’t give it a chance. She falls fast and hard for Tyler. But, in the back of her mind there is always that little voice saying it’s so perfect, to right, it could all be a lie. Is that little voice right? This book ends in a soft cliff hanger. I loved all the characters in this book. I have not read her other series but I have it. It has been moved up my list after reading this book. This story just pulls you in and makes you want to keep reading. I was pulling so hard for Mackenzie. She has been through so much and deserves a happily ever after. Tyler loves her so much but can’t change the original reason he approached her. Can he make her see that he really loves her and it’s not all a lie just to get info about her dad? I can’t wait to read the second book in this series. I think I found a new author to add to my favorites list. I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Today I finished Chasing The Dragon by the wonderful T.K. Leigh. I am always a fan of her books, and I was so excited to be able to spend time with another Burnham! Tyler Burnham always lived in his older brother, Alexander's shadow, and spent a lot of time in darkness after surviving some rather sad and gut wrenching events in previous years. Sent on a mission to gain information from a specific gorgeous woman, Mackenzie, he did not anticipate the strong pull he felt towards her, and the fact that it might even be mutual. Mackenzie was involved in a situation she had to keep secret for her own safety, however several people felt that she was the key to a dangerous situation they believed had to be dealt with for many different reasons. The characters in CTD were wonderful! Mackenzie's best friends, Jenna and Brayden were perfect! The backdrop of a dessert and wine bar in S. Padre Island, TX(with a little bit of Boston) was refreshing. Seeing Alexander and Olivia again was fabulous, and the villains in this book were outstanding, since I couldn't figure out whether or not I should trust them. Mackenzie was a woman I would be friends with, and Tyler Burnham with his sweet soul, sexy stature and sinful ways won me over, hands down! Looking forward to Slaying The Dragon, and what happens next!!!

I love T.K. Leigh’s writing style. Her characters are three dimensional and her story has such depth I could drown. Her surprises and twists make her work extraordinary.  Both Mackenzie and Tyler are bound and determined to not fall in love but its “like” at first sight and going uphill fast. There is a cliffhanger so do not be shocked at that. You have been warned… twice. The emotional rainbow of this story drags you through every emotion you can name so get the tissue ready.  I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

Most people don't know that Tyler is secretly working for his family's private security company. That he has been scoping out an asset for the past six months. Least of all her. His target. He is only meant to make her fall for him. To make her trust him implicitly so that she shares her deepest secrets and the intel he has been sent for. He never thought he would fall for her too. Mackenzie lives her life in a well planned out and organized manner. She has to because she simply can't face any heart break ever again. She doesn't have time for relationships but the night she meets Tyler changes everything. They fall fast and hard amidst numerous threats to Mackenzie. But the biggest threat of all may be to her heart. Oh. My. God. Move over Alexander because little brother has arrived and completely stolen the show. This story was just spectacular. It was filled to the brim with mystery and suspense and deceit plus lots and lots of steamy times. While I absolutely enjoyed Ms. Leigh's Beautiful Mess Trilogy, I was not expecting to be so blown away by Tyler's story. I am still trying to wrap my brain around it all. Despite his deception, I love Tyler and I hurt for both him and Mackenzie. And I even hated Alexander a little bit at the end there - totally didn't see that one coming! It was all just so well written and even though I may think I know what is truly going on, I have a feeling that I am actually clueless. The truth could go in so many directions and I love that. I adored everything about this book and I am DYING for the next one to see how it all unravels. (Hint: cliffy alert)

Are you looking for an emotional, thought provoking, sexy read that will leave you on the edge of your seat, begging for more? Chasing the Dragon is your ticket for a wild and steamy ride. This book crushed me and I need more now! Lately I seem to get sucked into amazing books and before I know it, the book is ending but the story is far from over. This cliffhanger got me and I am literally going to  beg TK for the next book! Chasing the Dragon is the first book I have ever read from TK Leigh. I have many of her books waiting on Kindle and now I understand why everyone gifted those books or convinced me I needed my own copy. The writing in this story is breath-taking. The scenes, themes, and situations were raw, gritty, and emotional. There are blurred lines and deep moment that cause you to think about what is happening and evaluate what is seen and unseen. There are twists and turns in this story that will leave you confused, wading through that confusion with our main characters. This mystery continues to build and I cannot wait to see the conclusion in Slaying the Dragon. I loved Tyler and Mackenzie’s characters. These two have so much to hide yet so much to give. When they love, it is with abandon and beauty. When they take that step, no matter what happened in the past or before that life defining moment, these two dive in whole heartedly, both bearing secrets that could tear them apart. Tyler is such an handsome, conflicted, and loving man. His heart is transformed during his moments spent with Mackenzie. These moments cause a change that he thought would never happen, leaving him confused, conflicted, and constantly on edge. His confliction is so well displayed in the pages of this book. He has found life and meaning again in the worst possible place and situation. But the beauty of this situation is that love is like the most beautiful and resilient flower that can literally bloom anywhere, never truly making sense to anyone but those in the midst of it. Mackenzie is a strong woman. She is structured, managed, and careful. Her life has been full of secrets and grey areas. She doesn’t know who to trust and who to open up to. Her heart has been broken by those she loved the most in the past and now she has left the old, free and lively woman behind for someone who is protected emotionally and careful of the world around her. When the woman from before begins to emerge, she is stunning. A woman of passion, life, love, and abandon. Each secondary character plays a vital role to the story. Their lives and experiences are intertwined with our two lead characters in such a way that they add depth and feeling to the situations and interactions we read. Watching these two fall in love was beautiful but also heartbreaking. You know that the other shoe will soon drop and there will be pain and misery left in the aftermath. At times I would be so frustrated by their interactions, wishing that the moment of truth would come to light. But they continued to get deeper and deeper. I hoped there would be a way around the pain but with true love, you are forced to feel everything- the good, the bad, and the gut wrenching. These two are faced with challenges and feeling they never truly saw coming. The suspense in this story is so intriguing. I am constantly going back an forth wondering who to trust and what is really going on. This first book in the duet introduced the situation and started to develop the mystery, but I feel like it focused more on our two main characters. There are so many unanswered questions- things that have the potential to endanger everyone we have met so far in this story. There are so many deceptions and lies floating around that it is so hard to determine what is truth and what is not. I cannot wait to read what happens next. As much as I hate cliffhangers, I feel like this one is just building the anticipation level even higher. This story could go anywhere from here and I cannot wait to see what TK Leigh has in story for us next!

OMG OMG OMG!! I was given this book for an honest review for Through the Booking Glass! I have loved everything I've read by TK Leigh & this is no exception! This book blew me away! McKenzie is independent & guarded. It's how she's lived her entire life. What other's think she is, she really isn't! There were times I wanted to shake her & tell her to just trust Tyler but I understand why she can't!  Tyler is amazing! He's on a mission for the truth & is supposed to do whatever to get it! BUT falling for the girl isn't in the plan! I didn't see it coming! I was shocked & in awe of the turn of events! I was left hanging & on the edge of my seat for most of the book! When the truth start to come out, will love prevail? Can McKenzie forgive Tyler for lying to her? I sure hope so! We will have to wait until the 2nd part to find out what happens to Mc & her family when it's all exposed!

4.5 Suspenseful cliffhanging stars Favorite Quotes: “At first, I had been hesitant to take on a male roommate, but once I realized we both shared the same taste in men, my stress level decreased.” “I wished I could have recorded his voice murmuring those endearing words to me so I could replay them over and over again when I needed to feel something I didn’t think I would ever feel again.” “Yup.  This is hot.  I’m officially done for.  Any woman who looks as equally enchanting in a dress as she does in a pair of combat boots is a keeper in my book.” “I’d rather you break my heart than to never have felt it beat to begin with.” My Review: I am sputtering in consternation after finishing Chasing the Dragon… I am not sure how to sum up how I feel, or even how I actually do feel.  The book is well written as all T.K. Leigh’s books are, she has skills!  She absolutely wrecked me with Heart of Marley and Heart of Light. Chasing the Dragon is full of intrigue and suspense, and as it involves a government conspiracy – and as it is our government - I can’t decide if the good guys are actually good, or if the bad guys are actually bad… the details are revealed ever so slowly with conflicting information… my head is spinning.  The romance progressed with a scorching sensual tease, amounting to a weeks’ worth of tantalizing foreplay before culminating into the sizzling, combustible, and mind-blowing merging of bodies at the 60% point.  After which, they were allowed a brief respite to be happy, but then - arg – cliffhanger!  I despise cliffhangers!  They are a pox, a curse, an evil and diabolical plan that I find worse than screaming children on an airplane!  But damn, I am hooked… snared… truly invested in this story.  Needless to say, I have muttered some of my favorite expletives as I huff and puff and pound out this review - some of them have been used repeatedly… But please, sigh, please sign me up for Book 2, like… now would be good...

I read this book, I savored this book, I devoured this book...I didn't want it to end. I loved Mackenzie and the life she made for herself despite her past. I loved how tragic Tyler's life was and at the same time acknowledged his feelings and wouldn't let them be denied. I loved that I got a glimpse in the lives of Alex and Olivia. I just loved every single thing about this book!!

OMG I loved this book! Tyler is so hot! MacKenzie deserves love but men keep betraying her! How will she survive these lies from the men she loved starting with her father, Charlie to Tyler! I wept! My heart bleed for Mackenzie! I want her to have the fairytale! She deserves it! I can't wait for fall to get the next one in this series! I have never felt this strongly about a book, this book stole my heart!

Mackenzie has not lived a normal life by anyone’s standards. I mean who could when at a young age she was dragged from her home and sequestered with a new identity and in a new city without being told why? For years she has been this new person yet she has never felt like she belonged. She has changed not only her name but who she is as well. Long gone is the trusting, carefree girl and in her place is a control freak who has to plan her life down to the minute and someone who no longer knows how to trust. When Tyler pursues her with a passion she doesn’t know what to do. This man has the ability to make her feel and share all the secrets that have haunted her since childhood. Tyler knows that he shouldn’t develop feelings for Mackenzie. She is after all an assignment but he can’t help the way she draws him in. The more time he spends with her the more sucked in he becomes. When it appears that her past is catching up to her in more ways than one Tyler goes into full on protection mode. But can either of them survive the secrets that brought them together? Can the past finally been laid to rest and both of them still come out in one piece? A tale that will suck you in til the very end.
