4.0 out of 5 stars Memorable Musical Memoir, July 16, 2011 By Mac Mahr Will Rogers said, "When you put in good things you didn't do, and leave out the bad things you did, that's a memoir." Fortunately, in the case of CHASING THE MUSE, which won the Florida Writers Association Literary prize for memoir, Gene Hull describes how Katherine Hepburn scolded him; Duke Ellington hired him; Elvis greeted him; Benny Goodman Inspired him; Leonard Bernstein thanked him as we all thank him for taking readers along on this well-crafted and entertaining musical tour de force. Highly recommended. Malcolm Mahr is the author of seven books, including THE RIYADH CONSPIRACY; THE SECRET DIARY OF MARCO POLO; THE MYSTERY OF DAVINCI'S MONNA VANNA; MURDER AT PARADISE SPA; YOU'RE RETIRED NOW. Engaging Musical Memoir

Gene Hull's "Chasing the Muse" is an entertaining, humorous, and poignant story of his life and musical career. Growing up in a musical family, he was a member of and led various big bands, culminating in a performance at the Newport Jazz festival. His stories about many of the show business luminaries he met along the way add to this enjoyable read. Highly recommended. John Cammalleri - Author of "Protecting the Cittern" and "The Ibex Trophy"
