Checkmate: This is Loveby Kennedy Fox
Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
The anticipated conclusion ofThe Checkmate Duetfrom a secret duo of bestselling authors! Checkmate: This is War is an enemies to lovers romance that will have you crying with laughter one moment and screaming in frustration the next... but you'll be begging to play the game with The King.
Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She's smart, beautiful, and too good to be true.
And I want her.
If she were anyone else, I'd have made my move years ago, but considering she's my best friend's little sister, she's always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.
Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I'm more determined than ever to change her mind.
I'll prove I'm done playing games.
But until then, we'll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn't over yet.

Checkmate: This Is Love By: Kennedy Fox 4 star review by Kristie K. Another super sexy, erotically charged read from the incredible Kennedy Fox… As the follow up to Checkmate: This Is War, we jump in right where we left off. Passions are high, and things seem to be looking up for our lovers. Things take a turn for the worse, though, and we have to see if Viola and Travis can make it through these new challenges. As with the first installment, I absolutely adore these characters! The author has a real talent for writing quick witted, fun, and intelligent characters. And the sexy times?!?! Good Lawd have mercy!! This Is War left us in a cliffhanger, and we start off in that exact situation when we return to the story here in This Is Love. Tragedy has a way of changing the game, and we wonder what will happen now. The surprises don’t stop coming, but eventually we do work our way back for the happy ending. So, now to the hard part. This Is Love was a little less enjoyable to me than This Is War, mainly because the storyline was jumpy and the crisis seemed to be lacking something for me. It was less believable that the reactions would be what they were, in the circumstances the characters found themselves in. Please keep in mind that every opinion is subjective, and mine is no different, but to me this book had more filler than necessary and not enough substance. Now, that being said, I still loved this book and will continue to read this series as long as the author continues to write them! I adore Kennedy Fox and can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next! Bring on Drew!! Kristie K.
After that doozy of an ending in This is War, I could not wait to get my hands on This is Love. The books are a duet, so This is Love should not be read as a stand alone. The story picks up right where the first left off and it definitely did not disappoint! The chemistry between Travis and Viola is just as scorching (if not more!) than it was in book 1 and the hilarious banter between all of the characters was kicked up another notch. This book had all the feels - joy, anger, sadness, hope, and heartbreak. We all knew that the way book 1 left off that there would be hell to pay in book 2, and pay we did, with our hearts! But don't despair Team Traviola, I said there was hope and joy too :) I'll admit that there were times I wanted to scream at the characters for letting their fears and misunderstandings get the better of them, but I could also see where they each were coming from and why things needed to develop the way that they did. Without being spoilery, I was happy to see some characters get their due, but there's certainly someone I'd love to say good riddance to right now if I could! It may have taken me a bit to warm up to Travis in the beginning, but this time around, I could not get enough of him! He seriously had some down right adorable moments, and this book really showed his more emotional and vulnerable side. Just as quickly though, he had me blushing from the blazing chemistry between him and Viola. Doting nurse - check. Bridget Jones - check. Bay window - check. Lake Tahoe - check. ;) One of my favorite parts about this duet are the Harry Potter and pop culture references. There is so much witty and hysterical banter between our characters that had me laughing out loud as I was reading. Some of my very favorites scenes are the ones where Viola unapologetically owns her bookish ways and embraces her inner nerd. True, I may not have found these scenes quite as hilarious if I hadn't read Harry Potter myself, but it definitely brought humor into this love story. I loved seeing both Travis and Viola grow individually and seeing their stories come full circle. Although this book is the conclusion to their chapter, I was happy to see that we aren't leaving the Checkmate world just yet. Older brother Drew and BFF extraordinaire Courtney also got a bit of page time in this book and I'm excited that we get to read their story next. If you're looking for a deliciously fun and steamy read, don't miss the Checkmate Duet! *I voluntarily read a free advance reader copy of this book*
Dear lord... where to start? This Is War left me with such a book hangover, I could not wait for This Is Love. I will say I was honestly surprised by the turns this book took, but pleasantly so. Where I expected sparks and more hate, there were different sparks and passion. Where I expected lovey-dovey sap, there was sarcasm and heat. Where I expect insecurities and an eye roll, there was strength and loyalty. This book done a marvelous job of keeping it real while also keeping the hot factor set to 10 the whole time. This story is believable, its the type you want to be a part of even if you're not the main character. Travis is the perfect combination of sexy, sarcastic, cocky bad boy and sweet, loving, passionate man, without if being unrealistically nauseating. Viola is a refreshing combination of sexy nerd without the cliche, sassy and strong without the envy, and fiercely passionate and independent without being clingy or standoffish. This book sucks you and doesn't spit you out. It still has me anxiously awaiting book 3. Basically, well done ladies. This book is everything I wanted and more.
After the cliffhanger at the end of the first book, I was expecting some instant gratification in the form of answers ASAP. But what fun would that be? Kennedy Fox makes you work for the secrets. Although Viola & Travis have established trust & love, they haven't lost the witty back and forth banter I loved in the first book. And plenty more hot chemistry too! This second book delivered everything I wanted for these two characters, and I LOVED that they had to take the scenic route to get there. Also, I'm now DYING for Courtney and Drew's story. Well played Kennedy Fox, well played!
Check & Mate I swear to all that is Kennedy Fox if you guys didn't just wrap a deliciousness and yumminess that is Travis King and Viola in to a perfectly wrapped package that leaves you on the edge of your seat begging for more I don't know what to tell you. This book picks up right where we left off after the first and this is even more swoon worthy. Travis starts to realize what he has with Viola and knows that he doesn't want to let her go but first they need to let a certain person know that their in a relationship. You get a bit of a fallout but every time they come together you see a side of Travis that leaves you wanting more and more because once his mind is made up he's all in. Viola has her reservations but what woman wouldn't with the type of lifestyle Travis has participated in for so long. The intensity between the pair is smoking and the banter was off the charts hilarious the one thing that I love about their relationship was the conversations between the pair because who can you truly be yourself with other than your partner. I'm glad to be getting more from this dynamic duo because its well worth its weight in gold
