Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Krisan Murphy
In this fourth book of the adventures of Ronald (a.k.a. Cheesie) Mack, the author tells a tale filled with suspense, humor, and adventure. Cheesie and Georgie, his best friend and next-door neighbor, accidentally unearth an ancient artifact—a compass from Captain John Smith’s expedition—when they jump into a construction mud hole on the school property. This adventure leads the two pals to join in a middle school effort to fill and place a present-day time capsule in the same spot where the artifact was located. In the meantime, Georgie is asked to be the ring-bearer at his dad’s upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, Georgie (with Cheesie looking on) drops the wedding ring down the bathroom sink. The boys try but fail to retrieve the precious item while handling other pressing matters, such as dealing with Cheesie’s older sister, Goon. Cheesie and Georgie believe that Goon has switched out the autographed copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone intended for the time capsule, so they try but fail to retrieve this precious item, also. The two are vivid and believable characters, and make the reader want to cheer for their success. Their obstacles and foils make for an intense and entertaining adventure for middle schoolers. Reviewer: Krisan Murphy; Ages 9 to 13.
