Overview

Attention, diary fiction readers! Have you met Cheesie Mack? You’ll love Cheesie’s wacky lists, drawings, and made-up words as he tells the hilarious story of a Halloween prank that sort of freaked him out.

Cheesie and his best friend, Georgie, are too old for trick-or-treating. Besides, all that spooky nonsense is just for kids! To prove it, they pull a “far out” prank that has the whole school abuzz about aliens. When Cheesie and Georgie reveal that they were the masterminds behind the trick, Cheesie’s evil sister, Goon, plots revenge. She recruits one of Cheesie’s friends to pull off a prank that will have Cheesie wondering if the truth really is out there. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jill Walton
In this tale of humor and wackiness, Cheesie is a sixth grader with a common problem: what to do for Halloween. Georgie, Cheesie’s best friend, is consistently inspirational in their annual planning of the Massive Halloween Prank. This year’s plan involves girls, science, and major deceptions (think UFOs) and will have a massive consequence when the prank succeeds. While Cheesie and Georgie are responsible for their actions, they are sometimes not aware that Cheesie’s father and Grandpa overtly participate in their plots. Teachers and parents are not typical figures of authority; rather they are characters with humor, insight, and their own quirkiness. Cheesie is an irrepressible but entertaining rascal whose escapades are very real to the middle school world. Cheesie is not physically vain; he knows he has big ears, no problem. But he does like to brag about his accomplishments and often refers readers to his exploits in the other books in the “Cheesie Mack” series. Reviewer: Jill Walton; Ages 8 to 12.
