I tell as many people as I can about this book of healing! It is easy to read,thorough and yet completely practical. Excellant for training/college coursework and especially for any Professional working in the field of addictions. I appreciate the assessments in the back of the book and also the two client workbooks that you can use for groups or individual counseling. The Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Client Workbook (2nd Ed) and The Gambling Addiction Client Workbook (2nd Ed) I'm a big fan of ALL of Perkinson's books

The most comprehensive treatment manual for addiction's counselors gets better with the second edition. This is the book that everyone is using at ASAM and other national organizations like NAADAC to train new counselors. It teaches the beginning counselor everything he or she needs to know to treat addiction as well as anyone in the world. Great Book!

Meet the Author
Robert R. Perkinson is the clinical director of Keystone Treatment Center in Canton, SD. He is a licensed psychologist, licensed marriage and family therapist, internationally certified alcohol and drug counselor, South Dakota certified chemical dependency counselor, Level III, and nationally certified gambling counselor and supervisor. His specialty areas focus on treating alcoholics, addicts, and pathological gamblers. He is the author of Chemical Dependency Counseling: A Practical Guide, Second Edition, 2003, SAGE Publications, which is the leading treatment manual in the world of chemical dependency counselors.
Dr. Perkinson co-authored, with Arthur E. Jongsma, Jr., The Addiction Treatment Planner, (2001, John Wiley & Sons), the best selling treatment planner and computer soft ware program for mental health and addiction professionals. He has published The Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Patient Workbook, (2003) and The Gambling Addiction Patient Workbook, (2003, SAGE Publications). With these workbooks, patients have all of the exercises necessary to enter a stable recovery.
