This book explains BASIC chemistry. It won't be helpful to your studies if you're taking a college level class (AP Chem or beyond). Instead of recommending this book, I recommend "Barron's AP Chemistry: Advanced Placement Examination". It explains everything from basic chemistry and beyond. It's like an abridged version of your textbook. Also, "Barron's AP Chemistry: Advanced Placement Examination" costs less.

Chemistry for Dummies is a very interesting book. It's well written, has interesting stories, and goes through many of the applications of chemistry that you can expect to see in the 'real world'. Unfortunately, this book doesn't do a very good job when actually teaching chemical concepts. I found that my professors would go into topics much deeper than this book ever did, making it almost useless to study with. My recommendation is that if you're going on Jeopardy, read this book so you can nail all of the Chemistry questions. However, if you're a student, you're better off just trying to figure out your textbook.

This book is very annoying to read. It is setup as if you were just skipping through different chapters, so if you are just reading it cover to cover it gets very annoying. If I read "if you don't understand this, go back to chapter 3" or "read blah blah later in this chapter" one more time I'm going to light the thing on fire. Don't get me wrong the book has great information. I just very much dislike how it not setup for readers that are reading it from cover to cover.

However, it is a start and may help you understand SOME things. Chemistry is a difficult subject to grasp, but I have them full credit for trying to explain it.

One of the better written reference guides I have read in a long time. This is a difficult subject, but the author managed to make it easy to understand and follow, and related the concepts to the real world. I would highly recommend this guide to someone wanting to brush up on chemistry (as I did), or as a secondary source to a elementary chemistry class.

Just skims the surface of chemistry. Not enough detail to explain concepts. It sort of asssumes you already know a lot, which, if that were the case, why would you be buying a 'For Dummies' book in the first place?!

I like this book but on page 166 of my 2003 copyright, the formula for aluminum sulfate is calculated
incorrectly. For a new student to be confronted with errors like this is problematic. You carry the doubt of
accuracy from that moment on. I doubt Moore is responsible for this; possibly a graphic artist or typist
made the error. My point is, instructional material of the self help nature needs to be absolutely accurate.
This is all the student has to rely on for instruction. As a teacher, I have found numerous errors in
text-books, such as incorrect cut lines explaining photographs. The publishing industry needs to do
better.
As for this book, A minus.

This book is for beginners with little knowlege of the subject.
Yet it is interesting to read and useful in some everyday settings.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a basic knowlege.
