Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me" -- the best record that Aretha Franklin never made -- is the obvious marquee inclusion here, trailed closely by Etta ...

Fontella Bass' "Rescue Me" -- the best record that Aretha Franklin never made -- is the obvious marquee inclusion here, trailed closely by Etta James' "I Just Want to Make Love to You" and Koko Taylor's "Wang Dang Doodle." But the set also showcases lesser-known classics like Sugar Pie DeSanto's "Slip in Mules," a pair of cuts from the criminally unknown Chicago soul chanteuse Mitty Collier "I Had a Talk With My Man Last Night" and "Sharing You", and even "This Time Tomorrow," a standout from Tammy Montgomery -- far better known for her Motown-era work as Tammi Terrell.
