Editorial Reviews

Stuart Miller
Joey Davis has felt like a displaced person since his parents divorced. When his mother marries Mr. Johnson Joey finds it impossible to accept the fact that they form a family. He wants his parents to love each other and live together again. The story has few surprises. Boy rejects kindly stepfather; real father distances himself; stepfather is establishing relationship when boy's carelessness alienates stepfather; boy makes amends, and new family ties are formed. All of the principal characters are nice people, people who make mistakes, but who care about doing the right thing. That and the fact that the family is a normal, hardworking black family outweigh the predictable plot.
