Chicka chicka boom boom
will there be enough room?

There will always be room for Chicka Chicka boom Boom on every child's bookshelf!

An alphabet rhyme/chant that relates what happens when the whole alphabet tries to climb a coconut tree.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
"A told B, / and B told C, / I'll beat you to the top of the coconut tree." Rascally A entices the whole alphabet up the tree, but the tree cannot handle the weight. All the lowercase letters come crashing to the ground, "Chicka chicka... BOOM! BOOM!" Uppercase letters rush in to comfort the little ones, and all is well-for a while-in this irresistible alphabet book. Ehlert's bright, graphic illustrations join the jazzy foot-tapping rhyme. Watch out for that imp, A!
Publishers Weekly
In this bright and lively rhyme, the letters of the alphabet race each other to the top of the coconut tree. When X, Y and Z finally scramble up the trunk, however, the weight is too much, and down they all tumble in a colorful chaotic heap: ``Chicka Chicka . . . BOOM! BOOM!'' All the family members race to help, as one by one the letters recover in amusingly battered fashion. Poor stubbed toe E has a swollen appendage, while F sports a jaunty Band-Aid and P is indeed black-eyed. As the tropic sun goes down and a radiant full moon appears, indomitable A leaps out of bed, double-daring his colleagues to another treetop race. This nonsense verse delights with its deceptively simple narrative and with the repetition of such catchy phrases as ``skit skat skoodle doot.'' Ehlert's bold color scheme, complete with hot pink and orange borders, matches the crazy mood perfectly. Children will revel in seeing the familiar alphabet transported into this madcap adventure. Ages 2-6. (Oct.)
Children's Literature
Are you bored with the classic ABC song that ends " Now I know my ABC's, won't you sing them back to me"? Then try this jazzy song with a tropical beat. "A told B, and B told C, 'I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.'" "Whee!" asid D to EFG, "Ill beat you to the top of the coconut tree." The race is on and the big question is "Chica chica boom boom, will there be enough room?" What a grand way to start a wintry day.

    Calm a 1 Year Old!!!

My 1 year old son does not like being read to as he is a hands on, active child. But when I started reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to him, he would sit in my lap as long as I read it. Soon he was getting the book, bringing it to me and climbing in my lap on his own. Any book that can get MY son that excited about reading is a winner. Plus, this is one of the only BABY books that I can have fun reading. And when you have to read a book 23 times in a row, YOU HAD BETTER LIKE IT!!!

    BOLD, BRIGHT, AND BEAUTIFUL

You're not going to believe this alphabet book - it's bold, bright and beautiful! Brilliant colors fill each polka-dot bordered page as the alphabet begins its adventurous journey to the top of a coconut tree. The rhymes are irresistible and fun to be read again and again.

This version is printed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original published in 1989, and gives a new generation of children the opportunity to learn as they play beginning with "A told B, and B told C, `I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.'"

There's a festive commemorative poster on the inside of the dust jacket decorated with brilliant polka dot candles and a headline reading "A told B, and B told C, `Let's celebrate twenty years of climbing up the coconut tree!'"

    Enjoy!

A wonderful new edition of this child favorite!

So glad to see "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" in lap (oversized board) edition. The new format allows babies and toddlers to fully enjoy this great book. The story is a wonderful introduction to the alphabet as well as a fun rhyming, colorfully illustrated story. Perfect for young children! Now these pre-readers can touch, play with, and study (because that's what they are doing) this fantastic book, time and time again. It will hold up under their use and be treasured.

    Bold and colorful

The book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault, illustrated by Lois Ehlert is a captivating book for infants through second grade kids. This book has received the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and is considered an alphabet book. This book is colorful, engaging and very charming for younger kids. In this story the abc's are climbing up to the top of the coconut tree with rhythm as they start climbing the tree starts bending till all the letters fall. When reading this book parents and teachers can change rhythm and make it a new experience each time it is read. This book allows for many activities and child interaction it is very child friendly and could be easily read by kids.

A new version of the ABCs

Need another alphabet song other than the classic version of the ABCs? This rhyming book goes in alphabetical order with both upper and lower case letters as they try to race to the coconut tree. It helps the reader with alphabet recognition and helps identify between upper and lower case letters. Bright colors and patterns take this vying of letters to a fun and new way of singing the ABCs.

    Great for young readers

I first read this book at the age of 17 and fell in love with this book immediately. I used this book as a flannel board project and the kids loved it. As you read this book, you develop a natural rhythm. It is great for young readers to help with their alphabet recognition. This book goes in alphabetical order and uses both uppercase and lowercase letters so the young readers are able to identify what letters go together. This book is an absolute must have for those learning the alphabet in a fun way.

    Chicka to the Boom !

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is an alphabet book with crazy bright colors that a found to jump off of the page. With its snazzy beats as you read though the book, it will encourage kids to read and have fun doing this. I just loved the bold lettering and the focus on the letter and the sounds presented in the book. There is also rythming in this book which makes it so appealing to kids at any age, even me being an adult I love this book and can't stop reading it.

    Fun fun fun

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is definately not a bed time story book! When reading this book you'll notice a playful little rhyming pattern that children will catch on too. Its almost impossible to readthis book and not find yourself singing the words in the end. The book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom reminds me of what would happen if the magnets on the fridge came to life. I recommend this book to anyone that wishes to entertain a chiild and showcase the fun of reading.

    BOLD, BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

You're not going to believe this alphabet book - it's bold, bright and beautiful! Brilliant colors fill each polka-dot bordered page as the alphabet begins its adventurous journey to the top of a coconut tree. The rhymes are irresistible and fun to read again and again.

CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM 2010 is the first oversized board book edition, and in this case bigger is definitely better - more eye-popping than ever. Originally published in 1989 this alphabet book has appealed to generations of youngsters and shows no signs of slowing down. Now, the latest edition gives an entirely new generation of children the opportunity to learn as they play beginning with "A told B, and B told C, `I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.''

What a festive way to learn ABC's all the way through to "Last to come X Y Z. And the sun goes down on the coconut tree..."

    Enjoy!

6 month old LOVES this book

I got this as a gift at my baby shower and I read it to my daughter in my belly. Fast Forward to almost...7 months later.. SHE LOVES THIS BOOK. I know this book by heart now so I don't need to look at the pages while she licking them or trying to grab the letters. She always listens to this book and she does enjoy it. We also sing the song too. I highly recommend this book to parents, it teaches the alphabet in a fun interactive way!

    Lots of fun.

This book is great for the little ones. I buy it for all new moms. It is very easy to read and fast paced. Easy to keep turning the pages to keep the little ones from getting bored. Also easy to set to a sing song pace that keeps them more interested. I tell everyone that my youngest knew all the letters to the alphabet before she was 2 thanks to this book. And there was no work involved.

great book to get kid started on the alphabet

My daughter loves this book. She wants me to read it over and over. The only draw back is it is paper pages not a board book so I don't let her look at it by herself yet. She's 2 and still thinks it fun to rip up paper.
