Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Written by two nurses, this book attempts to help parents and health professionals understand the grieving process that follows the death of a child. It describes typical grief symptoms, such as profound emptiness, guilt, and anger; discusses family methods of coping after a loss; and explores possible therapeutic interventions by caregivers. Various paintings and poems interspersed throughout the text illustrate artistic renderings of parental grief. The book's compassionate tone could make it of value to grieving parents, but the writing style tends to be tedious and rather repetitious. If libraries already own the first edition Aspen Publ., 1983, there would be no need to purchase this one. A much more inclusive and comprehensive work, geared to medical professionals and counselors, is Parental Loss of a Child, edited by Therese A. Rando Research Pr., 1986.-Ilse Heidmann Ali, Kyle Community Lib., Tex.
