This book describes and analyzes how a child's interaction with family, school, peer groups, media and community influences his or her developmental outcome. Professionals working with children and students studying child sociology need to understand the effects of contexts in which children develop and how multi-factors interact to affect child development.
"[The text] is a great combination of providing an overview of families, different types of schools, and how to get involved in the community. It allows my students to show the effects of how families, schools and communities can work together for the better of the child."
"[The text is] a comprehensive sociological look at the ecology of the child. This text really utilizes the ecological model and makes it come alive."
Roberta Berns is a Professor Emerita at the University of California, Irvine, as well as Saddleback College, where she founded and chaired the Human Development Department. This is my first time using nook study but I have the nook device so i dont see how it can be any different. Ill be starting my class online in the summer 2011. When I checked to see how much it was going to cost at the college bookstore. It was going to be 99.00 for a new book and just a used book alone was 74.25. Barnes and Nobles you can rent it for 47.00. I was like yes. Classes are already expensive as it is. My advice for those who have a sociology class and are trying to save, you should get this book on bn. :D Hope this helps.
