    I love this book!!

My favorite is the first edition, but I like the updated info in the more recent editions.
I used this book to teach my children about the birds and the bees. I had it out in the open for them to look at the pictures from the time they were very young. Naturally, as they aged, more questions would arise. It made discussing the facts of life comfortable and natural. I made sure to discretely tuck it away in my room when young friends came over.
I like that there is still enough mysery left for the young adult to discover on his/her own, at the appropriate time, and still be quite educated about his/her own body and how it works.
My adult daughter, now, loves to share it with her husband and look at all the stages the embryo and subsequent fetus is reaching each week of her pregnancy.
    I highly recommend this book!

    Life, Precious Yet Ephemeral

This highly-beautiful and stunning photographical book on the preciousness of a child in the womb should be read by everyone, not just expectant mothers, families, or those that are starting a family. With the encroachment of politics, there is an ever-increasing need to show all the citizens of humanity that this child has a beating heart, an immaterial soul, and the greatest potential to become something great and cure cancer, AIDS, or change the world forever. I have spent several years studying medicine and I can tell you that the child is very much human that is growing inside of a woman, at just a few weeks after conception, the heart starts to beat, blood courses through their tiny veins, the brain develops, and they are breathing amniotic fluid in their lungs. For a man, the greatest experience that we can have is seeing a fetal sonogram of our child, with their very rapid heartbeat, if I had the time and money, I would make a compact disc recording of a baby's heartbeat and loop it, along with the beautiful and soothing purring of a newborn kitten, I would love to go to sleep with that great music, nothing against new age and ocean music.

To quote a great female poet, "the emotions and feelings of giving birth to a child, bringing that child into a beautiful and just world, knowing that if not for you, your child would not even exist, is the most humbling and awe-inspiring experience that any woman could possibly have in the course of their entire lives." This book conveys just such a feeling, which leaves the reader in stunned silence, as much by the precious beauty of a child in the womb, as by the emotionally-laden photographs of life's most precious moments.

A CHILD IS BORN is a true CLASSIC

Although the photographs in this book were taken some years ago with then cutting edge technology of in-utero photography of the developing baby, the photographs in this book remain among the most powerul and moving I have every seen. I first purchased this book when it was originally published after seeing some of the photos in a magazine --
    LIFE I think.

I have looked at it regularly over the years and each time am filled with the marvel and miracle of what these images capture. When my daughter became pregnant with her first child a few months ago, the first gift I gave her was this book. She and her husband have beautiful images of the miracle they are participating in and the incredible changes along the way. And by, the way, there is excellent, concise text as well.

I recommend this book to anyone, absolutely anyone. It was an incredible achievement at its original publication, and that achievement holds its place today. Personally, I find these images more potent and more beautiful than the new 4-d ultrasound. Their beauty is timeless. This is a book to treasure and go back to again and again.

A must have for any mom (or dad) to be

This book offers the motivation any mom or dad needs to get through those long nine months. The photos alone can bring you to tears in wonder and amazement.

    Wonderful!

When my husband and I were expecting our first child over twenty years ago, this is first book we purchased. It was an amazing book that taught us so much. When we recently learned that our daughter is now expecting her first child, we naturally thought of this book to give them as they experience the development and birth of their new child.

    Better than What To Expect...

I recommend this book to all first time, second time and so on, mothers that are rookies and want insight or to every mother that wants to brush up on the facts of life. This book gives a broad spectrum of life from the beginning stages of conception to the actual birth. This book is a must have.

    A Masterpiece

This book, and the film of it, are probably the best material there is to teach children how babies are conceived, live in the womb and are brought into the world. Very concise.

First time mother, found this book very helpful

I'm 22, I found out I was pregnant a little before my 22nd birthday. I was excited and scared all at once, so was my husband. At my first docter appointment, the docter gave me a magazine which recommended this book. I went and bought it. After having to take it away from my husband, I found the book to be very factual. I'm not quite so scared anymore. My husband said that it helped him understand what was going on with me, and why some things I do are dramaticlly different.

Amazing to see the Miracle of Life

My husband gave this to me as a gift when we found out we were pregnant for the first time. The pictures are so amazing. It really brings home the fact that life is a miracle. I now buy this for my friends who become pregnant. It will also be a good tool to use when I have to teach my son about the Birds & the Bees.

    Loved Classic - Even Better

I remember reading this book with my parents and siblings as a child and early adult. It was a favorite of our family. I have just recently found out that I am expecting and immediately went to the book store to get my own copy of this book to add to our library and share with our children in the future. With the new pictures, it is even better than I remember!
