More About This Book

Overview

As the world slept quietly, pieces moved into place. Powerful paragons of good and evil exchanged invisible blows in pursuit of an ultimate power, while deep in space an unknown force rocketed toward Earth. A great unrest dwelled deep beneath the tranquility of life, available only to those who were willing to listen. Maximus Curton, once a soldier for the government, had found a life as a professor. His travels fueled his passion to learn all that he could about the world: the translucent mysteries that evade human inquiry. Zaccarie Lorenz is as powerful and arrogant as every great would-be dictator, and from his seat of power at the head of the Cosa Nostra he prepared for his ascension as the flag-bearer of a one-world rule. The great wave was the equalizer. Slamming into Earth with momentous force, it dramatically altered the lives of men and women who would from that day be referred to as Shifts. Friends become enemies; allies became villains as the world struggled to regain its balance. Charged with protecting Earth from Shifts who would seek to abuse their powers, Maximus forms the Legion with the help of an old government contact, Eagle Eye. Christopher Cutty, fellow professor and friend, joins Maximus as he recruits Lily and Eric, former students of Maximus. Elizabeth and Madison Duncan, a mother and daughter, are drawn into the coming war between the different factions of Shifts, as well as between Shifts and the rest of humanity. Once, Madison Duncan had been afflicted with brain cancer, but following the impact of the wave, she had adopted tremendous abilities of the mind. Deep within a secret location, the Parthenon, the Shifts are charged with protecting the world, training for a time that they hoped would never come. However, the fates were cruel as the Iron Clan, a group of thugs who were granted incredible powers, decide to reveal their power to the world. Aided by the somber Ron Etts, a powerful Shift who commands a mysterious power, they assemble as one to battle for the fate of the city. Summoning their incredible new powers, the Legion defeats those who would seek to destroy the peace of the city. Their victory is minor compared to the rising tide of Zorenz, the powerful Shift who seeks to destroy everything they have known. As the night closes on the Legion's first victory, Elizabeth Duncan embarks upon a journey to complete the powers bequeathed to her, and become the woman she was meant to be.
