With the help of Dickon Sowerby, a young local boy who can charm animals, Mary cultivates the garden, an experiences that both improves her health and raises her spirits. Ultimately, the secret garden proves beneficial not only to to Mary, but to her sickly cousin Colin, whom her estranged uncle has locked away in solitude following the death of his beloved wife, Colin's mother. Nurtured with love and tenderness, the secret garden proves it has the power to heal the heart. When the young age Arthur pulls from the stone an embedded sword that none of the knights of the kingdom can budge, his future as the King of England is foretold. This imaginative retelling of the classic Arthurian legends recounts the story of Arthur's formation of the Knights of the Round Table, his securing of the enchanted sword Excalibur, and his wooing of the Lady Guinevere. Included as well are the legends of Sir Pelleas, the story of Sir Gawaine's pursuit of the White Hart, and tales of Merlin the magician, Morgana Le Fay, the Lady of the Lake, and many others. One of the best-loved classics of children's literature, The Story of King Arthur and His Knights is magnificently illuminated with artwork of Howard Pyle that brings the pomp and pageantry of Camelot magically to life.

Shipwrecked on an uncharted island, the Swiss Family Robinson—mother, father, and four young boys—make the most of their predicament, adapting to the island and turning the absence of civilization to their advantage. Through perseverance, hard work, and self-reliance, they become masters of their new environment, rising to its many challenges and using their ingenuity to avail themselves of its abundant resources. Their experience is colorful, creative, and full of exciting adventures. For more than two centuries, Johann David Wyss's beloved book has entertained young readers. This illustrated edition, with full-color plates by T. H. Robinson, features an elegant bonded leather binding, a satin-ribbon bookmark, distinctive stained edging, and decorative endpapers. It's a book that will be cherished by readers of all age.

When he attends a dying patron of his family's boarding house, young Jim Hawkins has no idea that the man was once a pirate, or that the man's possessions include a map that will lead whoever has it to the island where the notorious buccaneer, Captain Flint, buried his treasure. Jim and his guardians hire a boat to sail to the island, unaware that crew they have hired includes many members of Flint's pirate band, among them former quartermaster Long John Silver, and that they hope to claim the treasure for their own. The ensuing action-packed adventure established the classic pirate story as it was written for more than a century afterward, and it made the literary reputation of its young author, Robert Louis Stevenson.

Black Beauty is a colt who narrates his own life story, from his youth on farms in England to his days as a horse pulling cabs in the streets of London and his retirement to the British countryside. Over the years, he is sold to variety of different owners, some kind and others less considerate. His life, which is made up of both light and dark experiences, is a constant education in the way that people and people and animals interact with one another. First published in 1877, Anna Sewell's Black Beauty is one of the best-selling books of all time and a classic of children's literature. This exquisite edition is distinguished by the delightful full-color plates and line drawings of Lucy Kemp-Welch. It features an elegant bonded-leather binding, a satin-ribbon bookmark, distinctive stained edging, and decorative endpapers. It's a book that will be cherished by readers of all ages.
