Chili Pimping in Atlantic City: The Memoir of a Small-Time Pimp and Hustler, the controversial autobiography of Michael Mick-Man Gourdine, AKA the Candyman, as he was known on the street. The book pulls no punches and provides an honest and sometimes shocking look at what one man from the wrong side of tracks felt compelled to do to achieve the American Dream.

Gourdine became a pimp who operated primarily on the streets of Atlantic City, New Jersey, while working as a corrupt NYPD cop who specialized in narcotics trafficking and prostitution. Employed as a police officer from 1990 to 2000, Gourdine reportedly made an estimated $2.5 to 3 million dollars in illegal graft, bribes, prostitution and drug dealing before being fired.

Gourdine was a chili pimp-that is, a small time pimp who had between one and three girls working for him. As a chili pimp, Gourdine didn't stay in the most expensive hotels or eats in the most expensive restaurants; he couldn't afford it. Instead he relied on is his ability to give his girls more care, attention and on-the-spot dependability than a bonafide pimp could give. Today, Gourdine recalls, "It is a sad existence that I was lucky enough to escape and maybe some readers will avoid after reading my book."

Chili Pimping in Atlantic City describes how Gourdine developed the stomach for the pimping game, became a corrupt cop, learned the pimping trade and survived on the mean streets. The author paints vivid profiles of some the interesting characters he meets along the way. He concludes with some hard lessons. "The best way to steer a young boy away from pimping is to change his environment," Gourdine writes. "If a young boy is starving, living without heat in his house, with no real men around him, guess what he's going to take when he sees the first person who he deems the best fit to survive in his dismal circumstances? And believe you me, he will not be a law abiding citizen."

Gourdine now resides somewhere in New Jersey where he owns and manages numerous properties, and changes residences often. He is married with four sons.

Real Life is always better than fiction!!! I really enjoyed this book and I truly admire the author for coming forward with the truth because most people wouldn't be as honest as he was. This is a must read about a young man coming of age and learning about the gritty world of sex and drugs. I highly recommend this book to everyone! DONT PASS IT UP!!!

This book grabbed my attention from start to finish. My heart goes out to the author who endured so much through his trying time in the street life. Everyone must go through a tough experience to appreciate life! Sounds like he learned his lesson and wants to help break the cycle of dirty cops!

Normally I don't read books like this but I was really interested in the story line so I picked it up. I was glad I did!!!

I like this book but a lot of the activity that the author participated in made me kind of sad. It is quite disturbing to know that the very people that we trust to protect us are no worse than the ones they are supposed to be protecting us from. Don't get me wrong I don't think ALL cops are bad but I know that there is a great deal of officers that participate in the very same activity as the author. The book is excellent and sometimes the truth can hurt. I commend the author for taking the steps to change and come forward with the truth!

I'm not even done reading it yet and I love it. I'm only on chapter three and it really got my attention. Author makes it plain and doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to telling the down right, dirty truth about the life he lead before he changed. For anyone who has a interest in books about drugs, sex and crime--- This is it! Go pick it up today!

For writing telling the truth about what goes on in the New York Police Department has gotten me shot, I live in fear after several attempts have been made on my life. This is My story. I've put my heart and soul in to it. It may cost you a little money to buy.......It has cost me everything. You will never be the same after reading my book.

I Love "PIMP" books and this is right up there with "Whoreson" by Donald Goines, and "PIMP" by Iceberg Slim. A must read for all lovers of Pimp stories.

He always hands out money around the Holidays......Especially to "Working Girls"...All they have to say is "CANDY MAKES YOU DANDY" and he gives out money. I read the book and he left out some stuff he did that was not so nice........But he's a "SWEATHEART":)

I was blown away at how vivid the description of the murdered teenager was in chapter 5. I looked into it and found out that it's a "Cold Case" Murder.......Great job!

Chili Pimping In Atlantic City is a really good book. It was a very interesting read about the everyday life of a corrupt cop who sold drugs, pimped women, and framed innocent people. This book is a real page turner. It would make a really good movie.

The best part of the book to me was when the author figured out he was getting pimped by "Arlene". It was funny to me because most men think they can never be pimped by a woman. I guess you learn something new everyday. The book reads "I could not believe it, I had been getting pimped all this time and did not know it. Women actually had been paying to have sex with me. I was appalled and flattered at the same time."

Even though the book mostly takes place in New York City. CANDYMAN pays homage to the place that pays his bills.......Even to this day.

What's most impressive about the story is that this Black Man who has seemed to do the impossible by simply surviving in a country and system designed to destroy him, not only survived, but managed to write an excellently written story about it. The story is heartbreaking and breathtaking. I recomment it to everyone who feels like they have no hope.

The Man has been shot, and has had his house burned to the ground all just to tell his story. Michael MickMan Gourdine's book is the best book I have ever read and hope that it is recognized by the top experts in the literary community regardless of the fact that th author is Black.

Finally after years of sub par inner city urban books. A book has arrived that describes that world to a "Tee". It is a window to a world that most Americans never see. They might see Hip-Hop videos, or Black movies but none of those stories really never say what's really going on in the streets.......This book does.
