    Captivating journey on eve of China's 'magical moment'

    In China Readies For Its Close Up author Linn Weiss delivers a superlative travelogue on Tibet, China, Hong Kong and Macao. With a flair for storytelling, and a big dose of humility and humor, we learn of the risks of high-altitude illness in Tibet experience 'everyday life' in Beijing with his resident daughter visit China's film industry backlots and travel throughout China and Hong Kong with tour guides and family friends. Weiss does an excellent job in capturing the mood in China just before the Olympics, detailing his personal observations of Chinese media and noting the state of Beijing's preparedness. The author complements his trip with incredible photos and descriptive travel insights -- a timely book, highly recommended!

    Just read, urged a family member to read, and have ordered others. A classic for China travel-very nice photos! Just before Olympics,author really captures places and people. Enjoyed adventures,practical advice, particularly the setbacks. Want to try the tomato dumplings, but not the squat toilets!
