Meet the Author

Roger Priddy left school at 16 with just one qualification—in art. He went to Berkshire College of Art and Design and trained as an illustrator.  His first job in children’s books was working with the publisher Peter Usborne, at Usborne Publishing, and then he worked with Peter Kindersley at Dorling Kindersley, where he spent 16 years. Priddy became Creative Director of DK’s Children’s Division and was Managing Director of the children’s mass market publisher Funfax when it was acquired by DK.

In 2000, he created Priddy Books with John Sargent at St Martin’s Press to create innovative and imaginative titles for children, from first books for babies through early reference titles for older children. Since then, over 30 million copies of Roger's 200 plus books have sold worldwide, with five of his books—My Big Animal, My Big Truck, Happy Baby Words, Happy Baby Colors and Puppy and Friends—each selling over one million copies. He is also the author of Big Board First 100 Words; Big Board Books Colors, ABC, Numbers; and Bright Baby Noisy Monsters. His creativity has been recognized with numerous industry awards. Priddy lives in London with his wife Zena and their four children.

    Just okay

I ordered this book because my 1 year old son love the similar Dizzy Dragon book. Unfortunately he isn't nearly as enthusiastic about this one. I also ordered Alien Al at the same time as Chirpy Chick and the last page didn't work at all so I had to return it.

    Great Book

My 7 month old actually crawled up to this book in Barnes and Noble and pulled it off the shelf. We bought it for him and ever since, it is by far his favorite book. He LOVES the tractor noise and lights on the last page. His eyes get big and his eyebrows raise up and he starts smiling non stop. He also loves to bet the chick and touch the eyes. Great book.

    Good early book

Great book for very young kids! Keeps my 4 month old grandson's attention with the jiggly eyes, and he loved the truck sound at the end of the book. Unfortunately the sound stopped working after one month - not sure what happened.

    Fun book!

I have a special needs nephew and he just adores these books. He'll go through the pages over and over again and just laughs at the last page where it lights up and plays music or a sound of some sort. He thinks they're just the best.

    I Also Recommend:

Great "Touchy-Feely" Book, But Not As Good As Some Of The Others In The Funny Faces Series

Chirpy Chick has wonderful, colorful pictures with swatches of "touchy-feely" material on every page, in addition to a tractor that has lights and sounds at the end. My husband and I bought this book for our 7 month old daughter. She is really into bright colors and different textures. Although this is a book that we read almost every single day, she does not react to it the way she does "Charlie Monkey," another book in the Funny Faces Series. The swatches of fuzzy fabric are great because they are larger than in most texturized books. I would definitely recommend books in the Funny Faces series, however, this would not be my first choice. The only other one we have at the moment is "Charlie Monkey," but we definitely plan on buying more. We started reading books to our daughter when she was about 3 months old, and the more to see, do, and touch, the better! That is why this series is so great--bright colors, wonderful textures, sound, and light! What a great combination for little ones!

Scary for a 1 year old!

My 1 year old son is frightened of this book because of the tractor sounds that it makes on the last page. The first time I read it to him, he was as happy as can be until we flipped to the last page and the rumbling tractor made it's sound. He burst into tears. Now, if he even sees the book, he moves to the opposite end of the room until it is put out of sight. I guess it will go into hiding until he is quite a bit older.
