Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heather Kinard
Chloe Yan knew that moving to a small town would have its' challenges, but she never imagined she would be trying to solve a murder. Jonah Shackleton is an angry and sometimes violent classmate of Chloe's. She does not know much about Jonah, but her first impression is he's a real jerk. But after being asked to tutor Jonah, Chloe discovers that his life is far more complicated. Jonah's father is in prison, convicted five years ago of murdering Jonah's mother. Jonah is convinced his father is innocent and this infuriates Mayor McDermott who was the police officer who handled the case. Chloe thinks that she might be able to help Jonah find the truth, particularly because her stepfather, Levesque, is the new chief of police in town. Together, Chloe and Jonah begin their quest to uncover the identity of the real killer. While Levesque is not thrilled with Chloe's involvement, he is intrigued by her determination and secretly begins his own investigation into the murder. Everyone is surprised when their search leads them back to none other than Mayor McDermott. This is a fast paced mystery with plenty of suspense and action, a hint of romance and a satisfying message of friendship and trust. This is the second book in the "Chloe and Levesque Mysteries" series, but can definitely stand on its own. Reviewer: Heather Kinard
