Editorial Reviews

VOYA
If Francesca Lia Block, Cecily Von Ziegesar, and Clemence McClaren would team up to create a series, the result might be similar to Daughters of the Moon. Selene, the Goddess of the Moon, has half-mortal, half-goddess descendents with awesome powers. They are young women who can continue an age-old fight of good versus evil. Living in present-day Los Angeles,Vanessa, Catty, Jimena, Serena, and Tianna make up a formidable fivesome who can become invisible, travel back in time, see the future, read minds, and use telekinesis, respectively. They also happen to be gifted in the arts of fashion, fighting, and flirting. Thrown into this mix are a Daughter who is tempted to the dark side, various love interests, and a ticking time bomb in that at the age of seventeen, each of the these young women must make a decision to become an immortal Goddess and disappear from this life, or decide to lose their powers forever and remain. Each novel opens with a short retelling of a myth that relates to the plot of the book. In The Choice, Book 9 of the series, Jimena, once part of a gang, must make up with an old nemesis from her gang days to fight a group of shape-shifting sirens created of Medusa's blood. In The Talisman, the tenth installment, Maggie, the mentor to the Daughters, reminisces about her youth in ancient Greece, as her time in this period grows short and the need for a replacement becomes inevitable. Although some background is presented in each new volume, to fully appreciate the growth and conflicts of the characters, one should read the series titles consecutively. The Talisman reads like a prequel, and therefore stands alone. Ewing's screenwriting background isevidenced by the fast pace and highly visual tone and also by the stereotypes and dramatic dialogue. Overall, these books are smart and sexy, multicultural and feminist, and they improve with age. The series is sure to find a following in school or public libraries. I Also Recommend:

    The Choice

This was definitly the book I was waiting for. I had forgotten all about this book when I began re-reading this series and after book 8 I was really discouraged as to finishing the series because that book was so boring. However, The Choice really picked it up and threw you into the DOTM lives again. Jimena is thrown back in time to try and save the Daughters from being swallowed up by the Atrox which appears in plain site on the day the seven sisters constellation and the moon align.. which happens to mark the end of the world. In the meantime, she gets falsly accused of dealing drugs and sent to youth camp. In camp, she meets three beautiful girls who turn out to be evil dragon nymphs disguised as teen girls. Jimena escapes and ends up on one hell of a weekend of adventures. Every other page has something to keep you locked in and reading to see what happens next. With her relationship with the beautiful and beloved Connor on theline, Jimena has a premontition that one of the daughters will betray the rest of them.. but who is it? And why would they turn traitor? Jimena gets a second premonition, one much more sinister than a back-stabbing friend...she sees her own death.. in the next few days nontheless. How can Jimena get herself out of trouble with the law in time to save all of the other daughters (and the world) from the Atrox's grip of evil? Who are the evil dragon nymphs and why are they after her? What will become of her relationship with Connor? Which daughter will betray her and her sisters? And at the end of it all... will Jimena make the right choice? Her 17th birthday is looming and she thinks it has something to do with her premonition of death. Will Jimena choose to become amnesic and forget her magial life as a daughter? Or will she be one of the first daughters to choose metamorphosis.. and move on from her life, friends, and family? All is contained in this action-packed book from Mrs. Lynne Ewing.

I am EAGER to read the 11th book and see life without Jimena. I've read all the books up until the last one (13) but can't remember the last few. It's been years since I've even looked at these books.. but one day I wakled past the final eclipse in a bookstore and picked it up, thus sparking my interest to find out what becomes of the girls. Thus, I had to re-read all 12 books (and will include the 4 sons of the dark books as well since that is the recommended reading order) to find that out. I recommend this series for any young to middle-aged teenage girl.. however some boys may enjoy it also. It deals a lot with finding yourself and dealing with moral decisions.. while dealing with high school, boys, dances, and parents. The fantasy adds an awesome touch, bringing the reader out of their everyday life for a few minutes each day to relax and read a great tale. A must read! For more information, check books 1-8 for my reviews as well as any of the recommended books I've placed on those lists.. as they're all in the same taste and style.

The Choice - It all comes down to a choice that each Daughter must choose from

We have Jimena who must decide on two choices that has to do with her being a Daughter and of her future as well after seeing a premonition and is sent into her past thanks to Catty of course.

okay okay now we all know that Jimena is the toughest and she never shows emotion and all, but in the third book and this book you can get to see how much she pain she really holds in. I can honestly feel her right there. I also think that Jimena could be a FABOLOUS actress because how she puts what the task is out there and all. I honestly LOVE this book and i think that she did the right thing by not choosing the metomorphisis'how eva u spell it' thats what I would have chose.

    Couldn't put down!

This is such a great book. It takes Greek mythology and fantasy and ties it together into something wonderful and imagintive. I have all of the books up to this one. It's one of the greatest fantasy books that I have ever read. I recomend this book for all teenagers!

    Good

i love this whole series, and this book was no exception. well, maybe it's just me but it was kind of confusing at times. i mean with jimena having her two selves and then finding out she was really turning 17...i don't know. i think the author could of done a little more to explain. like when jimena says they were betrayed by tianna, everyone believed her right and away and i thought she could of done more to explain it. this was still a great book, and i highly recommend it though!

Jimena is the coolest DOTM ever!

I loved this book! Besides #12, it really was the best of the series. I really like Payasa. I'm glad Jimena chose to stay instead of change to a ghost or whatever it is you become. But in the later books, I really do miss the old Jimena, but I'm glad she's still in the series!

Choice (Daughters of the Moon Series #9)

It was so sad!! I knew something was horrible about the DOTM since Tianna joined!! I predict that the rest of the books are going to fold and be really sad. Every generation of DOTM have to turn 17 sometime, don't they? Oh well. The saddest part was when Jimena was at Serena's party and didn't know anything! But, where's my seis (6) stars?

loved it ending was a bit sad though

In the 11th book, Jimena is time traveled back into the past by Catty to try to prevent her most terrifying premonition coming true. In order to do that, she is forced to team up with her old gang nemesis, Payasa, But trouble comes along the way for Jimena. she has been framed for supplying drugs but was framed by three mysterious girls who turn out to be spirits created by the blood of Medusa attempting to stop Jimena from saving the other Daughters in the present. the book is really good but the ending was a bit sad. but there are big plans for Jimena in future Daughters books. you have to read book 11 the Prophecy and book 12 The Becoming to see whats in store for Jimena.

Choice (Daughters of the Moon Series #9)

This book was really sad at the end. Jimena used to be my favorite DotM. I thought she would choose the metamorphisis, thats what I'd do. I thought it was funny at the end when it was Serena's sleepover and Stanton applauded when Jimena blew out the candles. It was really confusing. SO many things were going on at once! Gerard, Serena, Vanessa, and Tianna being kidnapped, the nymphs, jail, Chris, the Secret Scroll, Tianna the traitor... anyway, yet another great book!

    A warrior goddess

This book was wonderful! Jimena has always been one of my favorites, and I was really heartbroken by the ending. I guess it would be silly if all of the goddesses crossed over though, someone had to stay. Apart from the sad ending, this was another great piece to the series.

    Awsome

I think that this is a very good book, like all of the Lynne Ewings. But, it made me very sad that Jimena had to be cut from the DOTM circle. Luckily, she was not cut entirly from the books and in a way she still has her powers because she warns Catty in DOTM #11. I cannot wait until DOTM #12 The Becoming comes out, but in the meantime I will begin to read the Sons of the Dark series.

I LOVE THESE BOOKS THEY ARE AWESOME!~!~!

Omg, I didn't know how to just rate them all, so I'm just going to write it on here..lol...well i love these books and i HIGHLY recommend them..i read so many of them over the summer...thats crazy, reading is the LAST thing you would see me doing. but ms. payne recommended them to me and i cant stop reading them...READ AWAY. i would read them all from 1-the end, because otherwise you might get confused, and it tell you things from previous books and, well, it gives away the stories, so all i can say is have fun and enjoy!~!~!

I thought this book was great i am not much of a reader but i find these books just so intreging i read the whole serious up to number 10 in just two weeks i could just not put them down. I read one book a day and they were each 230 some pages and it took me a week to read the 5th Harry Potter. i would recomend these to any one with a sense of imagination and also the cool thing about these books they are like a good drama you have love action fear and fantasy.

    Better than ever

There is a traitor among the goddesses. Jimena is the only one who knows about it. Before she could find out who the person is she has to find a way to get out of her old gang¿s town. She figured out that she is going to become 17 already.

A goddess, a Daughter of the Moon

Jimena was the leader of the Daughters. She watched out for them and protected them as best as she could. Who is going to lead now? There has to be a lead goddess but in my mind Jimena will always be the lead goddess. She was really tough and went through so much. I hate the ending. It was too sad. I hope she stays in the series. Please anyone email me and talk to me about this series.
