Choices & Consequences tells you precisely how ...
Choices & Consequences tells you precisely how you can help. Written for parents, teachers, family doctors, mental health professionals, school guidance counselors, social workers, juvenile justice workers, clergy, and anyone else who cares about teenagers, it describes a step-by-step process called intervention that you can use to stop a teenager's harmful involvement with chemicals. If you're worried about kids and alcohol or other drugs, you can do something. And you can start today.
Gives parents, teachers, and other concerned adults the tools to recognize and understand all levels of teenage alcolhol or other drug use, and shows them how to use intervention to break through a teenager's resistance and denial.

The author gives sound advice on proactive parenting -- how drugs and alcohol work; why teens get involved; how to recognize various levels of substance abuse; how bad choices are 'enabled' by well meaning friends, teachers, and family. I wish I had read this years ago. Am attending Al-Anon meetings, and this book fills in the gaps. Also, the author explains how to create healthy boundaries for your child via a system of 'consequences' -- which is similar to the 'tough love' idea. Was this review helpful?
