Overview

Somebody is out to destroy Elle Simpson and everything in her life. Elle has always depended on family to make her business run strong, but long work hours have left her without much of a private life. Just as Elle thinks she has met the potential man of her dreams, she also discovers an imposter determined to destroy her business and life. Can she trust this "Prince Charming" to help her defend everything she holds dear, or will she only leave herself vulnerable at the worst possible time?

Drake Charles's work in the fast-growing mobile technology field made him a wealthy, powerful man. But he quickly sheds the fame and publicity for a more private life that earns him the label as a man of mystery. Drake adds to that mystery every year when he hosts a masquerade ball for charity. It's also his best chance to find the one thing he really wants . . . true love.

Having met behind masks of anonymity, Elle and Drake enjoy a whirlwind night of romance that leaves them both wanting more. Elle's heart tells her to trust Drake, but years of fighting off business foes has taught her that anyone could be a potential threat. Will this new romance give them both a fairy tale ending, or spiral into a nightmare for the whole Simpson family?

Editorial Reviews

LIfehouse Literature - Michelle Eriksen
Another Phenomenal Success for Kathleen Brooks!!

How do you follow an amazing series like the Bluegrass series? Well if you are Kathleen Brooks you start what promises to be another amazing series about Strong, Passionate, and Independent Women.

I loved this book, and I have a feeling that this will be another series that I'm waiting for the next book to come out each time.

Chosen for Power? I'd say more like Chosen for Greatness! 5 Stars from me!

I love Kathleen's writing style. I fell in love with the Rose Sisters in the Bluegrass Series. Chosen for Power only proves that Kathleen was "Chosen" to be an author.

Elle is such a strong character. I love how she is strong and independent and she handles things as a woman and not some caddy girl.

Then there is hunky sexy man Drake Charles, and man is he sexy.

    Disappointed

Loved the Blue Grass series. This story started with a bang and then fizzled completely for me.

Novella style - good characters but unrealistic plot

Starts off strong - reverse Cindarella, hard working and smart business woman Elle meets her would be prince, tech wizard Drake Charles, while in disguise at a charity masquerade ball. There's immediate attraction, discovery of true identities, corporate intrigue, and a host of likable family and other supporting characters, but about two thirds in the story takes an unrealistic turn with Secret Service agents acting more like foreign Secret Police under "executive orders" in response to potential threats. Not up to this author's usual standards.

    Wow

This was a very fast, fun, timely contemporary romance. Yes, it has (appropriate and mutual) sex, but it doesn't detract from the actual story. What bothers me is the prologue kind of just sits there, and you've got to read almost the whole story before it clicks into place.

Elle Simpson didn't get where she is the head of a global multi national corporation by looks. She learned how women do, by doing and learning. The fact she has "a head for business..." to misquote Melanie Griffiths in "Working Girl" has gotten her where she is. I love that she also has "....the bod for sex" ( the other half of that quote) but that she refuses to give into it. Example: her shoes; bunny slippers instead of "Satan's stilletoes". Comfort allows for presence and ability to flow.

Then, she meets someone as reclusive as she is, and she let's down her defenses and falls for Drake. And as her former paramour returns to town with vengence on his mind, she sharpens her abilities and once again betters the sleazebag.

I love Kathleen Brooks style and flair. This is a book challenging to some, and upsetting to others who can't see beyond the sensual to the cerebral. I, for one, will read anything I can find of this author in the future and encourage others to do the same

I love this series. It shows women can be strong enough to rule

I love this series. It shows women can be strong enough to rule the world and still stay feminine. The strong family ties are great. I especially liked the part where Elle get her revenge on those trying to take her company from her. I enjoy reading all of Ms Brooks' books and look forward to the next one.

Woman goes to masquerade ball, meets mystery man, they talk for maybe 2 hours, they have sex on a bench, she runs off like Cinderella, man finds her phone. Man thinks he can hack into her phone (not sure if he ever actually tried even though its his security software he designed), man goes to hospital because he thinks she is a doctor and asks a random group of nurses if they know this woman, nurse randomly knows who he's talking about (she's not a doctor or nurse). Meanwhile woman is pining away over man less than 24 hours since she met him, she's in love with him. Two days after the ball is Christmas, man shows up on woman's doorstep with a necklace and tells her he loves her.

That was all I read... chapters 1-9 and that was only half of the book. I found it highly unrealistic and couldn't convince myself to finish reading. I mean seriously, this lady is balling over a guy she met 12 hours ago and realizes she's in love with him for some reason. There just wasn't much of a story. Everything just seemed so farfetched, yet at the same time so basic you wonder why you only get surface information and no explanations.
