    "it's heartbeat is puro latino"

Christ Like is the harrowing first novel by Emanuel Xavier. When it was first published ten years ago, it announced the arrival of a unique and important new voice among both gay and Latino/a writers. Ten years later, the novel retains its compelling power as it takes the reader on a jagged journey though the New York club scene; in theme and naked urgency, it may be justly compared to Dancer from the Dance and Last Exit to Brooklyn, but its heartbeat is puro latino.
--Michael Nava, author of The Little Death and Rag and Bone

An Underground Trainride with Mikey as Conductor

This book takes us on a wild and realistic ride through the life of Mikey. We experience what life is like in the underground club scene, and streets of New York City. I found the novel to be life-like, and it is somwhat of a wake-up call. We learn that no matter what your sexual preference is, life has its highs and lows. I highly recommend the book as great train reading material.

    'Christ-Like' hits close to Home.

'Powerful,' is one word that I would say to some up the entire book. E. Xavier takes you on a trip through the eyes of a young, street hustler named 'Mikey,' who had been cheated out of life before even learning to talk. He only wanted to be loved, and understood, but only finding betrayal and deceit in those who he crossed his path. He faces many issues that young, gay, latinos are forced to face everyday. To be ashamed, and to live a life that is unnacceptable by families of strong religious belief. If E. Xavier reads this review, you have definitely made an impact on my life, that I will never look at gay literature the same ever again. THANK YOU!
