Overview

The term "mystic" conjures up various meanings by contemporary Christians: persons who may be emotionally unstable, visionary, self-deceived, of unsound doctrine, accepting of the bizarre, etc.

Tozer, however, referred to the evangelical mystic as one "who has been brought by the gospel into intimate fellowship with the Godhead."

Intimate fellowship with God. The phrase was descriptive of Tozer's relationship with Deity--and that of those whose works he has gathered here "to make available to present-day Christians a rich spiritual heritage which the great number of [us] for various reasons do not now enjoy."
