Short paragraphs on brightly colored background with colored photographs make this reference work inviting to children. The life of Jesus, his teachings, the spread of Christianity, and church practices are summarized. The reader learns of the division of the church into Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant denominations along with a movement to reunite the churches. A double page spread titled "Holy Places" tells of the relationship of Lourdes, Rome, and Jerusalem to Christianity. On the pages titled "Holy People," the place of the Pope, bishops, ministers, and pastors is related along with paragraphs on Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King. A few activities are described and illustrated, such as making a stained glass window with colored paper, and cooking Shrove Tuesday pancakes. There is a glossary, index, and notes for parents and teachers. This is part of the "World of Faiths" series. It is a daunting task to explain a world religion in such abbreviated space. This book may be helpful to those who are unfamiliar with Christianity.
