"The Christmas book of the year. Twenty-six dazzling, magical pop-ups commemorate holiday sights and symbols in unforgettable ways....Most of the pop-ups themselves are white, which gives them an elegant look, and Sabuda...has designed them all to move gracefully when the flaps are opened....Besides being an imaginative paper designer, Sabuda uses form, color, and space expertly....Just terrific. A marvel of paper engineering, this paper-over-board alphabet book transcends the usual connotations of ``pop-up.'' Four large flaps per spread-each representing a letter of the alphabet-open to reveal sophisticated 3-D images, some with parts that move in uncommonly inventive ways. Many of the pop-ups are obvious Christmas symbols: the Manger, a Nutcracker and a Poinsettia (the last-mentioned blooms majestically when the flap is lifted). Others have ambiguous-but resourceful-ties to the holiday: a Kiss is portrayed by two reindeer, face-to-face; and two frolicking snowmen are Friends. Representing the final letter is an obviously tuckered-out Santa (``Zzzzzzz''), asleep on his pillow. A yuletide gem. All ages. (Sept.)

Sabuda's Christmas Alphabet is a wonderful representation of the season's symbols, magic and spirit. Twenty-six elegant pop-up paper constructions will surprise and delight readers. Sabuda's skill and vision are sometimes breathtaking and always make one pause and remember the glories the symbols really hold Recipient of numerous awards, this book is a paper-engineering masterpiece.

This book is exquisite and in my opinion, children will not appreciate fully the art that has gone into this. Since first discovering Robert Sabuda, in 1994, I cannot wait to see the next presentation, as these are works of art. I have purchased these as Christmas gifts FOR ADULTS, and have discovered them on coffee tables. I cannot wait to pass these down to grandchildren. His books are a new tradition.

Although you will find this book and others by Mr. Sabuda in the Childrens' section, it should be displayed in the general reading area. This truly is a family book! I have given his previous book, Twelve Days of Christmas to many adults, and they all agree, this isn't just for children. Many will not let their children open the book by themselves for fear of disturbing the wonderful way the pages are put together.
