Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Debra Lampert-Rudman
The perfect book to carry glitter lovers through December to Christmas Day, The Christmas Angels pays homage to the role angels play as good, kind, and hugging as pairs of children prepare for Christmas. Gail Yerrill's softly painted illustrations of angels hovering above hugging pairs of mice, bunnies, owls, porcupines, squirrels, and skunks are encrusted with sparkling white and silver glitter. When one little porcupine travels with a gift, alone, to a friend's house, his guardian angel flies above on a snowy glitter-filled page. The spare, simple rhymes send a basic message of love and peace, such as the following: "When we help and care for one another, high above, the angels see it too. Every little act of love and kindness, Makes the gentle angels smile at you." The author/illustrator team also created A Magical Christmas. Reviewer: Debra Lampert-Rudman

PreS-Gr 2

An overabundance of glittering angels, warm and fuzzy pastel-colored scenes of fluffy animals living human lives, and saccharine rhyming text that doesn't exactly trip off the tongue all add up to a holiday greeting card masquerading as a book. While the sentiments are positive ("When we help and care/for one another,/High above, the angels/see it too./Every little act of/love and kindness,/Makes the gentle angels/smile at you"), the whole package is more sparkle than story.-Mara Alpert, Los Angeles Public Library
