All Music Guide - Steve Leggett
Perry Como's voice was like baritone honey, and his tone and phrasing when he sang always carried an intimate clarity, always soothing, reassuring, calm, and joyous somehow, no matter the song. I bought this CD because I remember some of these shows as a child, and how they always had a special place around the holidays. I also liked the fact that Toni Tennille was mentioned as one of the performers. But she actually doesn't appear on the CD. I'm a little confused about this, and listened to the CD twice, and specifically to the song listed as the one featuring her voice, but it isn't there, unless it is hidden in the chorus backing Mr. Como. The CD does bring back a lot of memories and Perry Como's voice is so suited for these holiday songs. The sound quality is a little off. I think they lifted the audio from the actual video of the show, which causes the sound to be a bit muffled at times, but I think it adds to the charm of it. A nice CD of holiday music.
