Overview

Trinity Church, located just a few short blocks from the site of the World Trade Center in Manhattan, has a rich musical history. Handel's Messiah was given its American premiere there in 1770. Today it hosts a well-known series of noontime concerts that draws in New Yorkers from all walks of life. The church also boasts an excellent mixed choir, whose pure sound evokes the great English all-male choruses, like that of King's College, Cambridge. This generous program of favorite carols is very simply done -- mostly a cappella, though a few selections feature organ accompaniment -- making it the ideal compliment to a traditional holiday celebration. Because of the church's proximity to the disaster site, Naxos is donating all the proceeds from the sale of this recording to the United Way's September 11th Disaster Relief Fund.
