A Sprig Of Mistletoe, Some Christmas MagicÂ…And Who Knew What Might Happen?

Kate Merrill wasn't kidding herself.

Attractive men didn't commit, as she knew very well from growing up without a father. So even though the jet-setting photographer with the high-voltage smile was the most captivating guy she'd ever met, she refused to think of him as anything more than a fling.

Tyler Nichols was addicted to adventure. So at first he was relieved that the cynical law clerk with the cool blue eyes didn't expect him to stick around for long. But that was before he realized that being with Kate was a thrill he wasn't getting tired of. Now their future depended on him getting back to her on time from his most dangerous assignment.

He just better not be late for their Christmas date!

What happens when you ground a free-spirit traveling photojournalist and give a home bound, responsible law clerk wings? Magic! The Christmas Date is Michele Dunaway¿s 14th novel for Harlequin and a true testament to her staying power with this line. This delightful tale of Kate Merrill and Tyler Nichols has a zany cast of secondary characters who will have you rolling your eyes, laughing out loud and filling you with the need to call your Grandma or Aunt in Florida. Set in Orlando ¿ away from the theme parks ¿ this story starts when Kate and Tyler meet briefly at the gas station. She notices his behemoth of a gas guzzling Hummer. He notices her. But as fate would have it, these two would run into each other again ¿ across the driveway. Tyler¿s sister arranged the purchase of the house next to Kate¿s and as Tyler is returning from an assignment in Iraq, he had no idea he¿d be moving into a neighborhood filled with zealous neighborhood watchdogs in the form of well meaning older ladies, nor that his neighbor would be so attractive and helpful. However, Kate, though attracted to Tyler, is resistant to letting herself become swept into the magic and temptation. Tyler is a roaming soul and she¿s a solid, need stability, wants to become a lawyer, settle down and have kids kind of girl. It won¿t work. Tyler knows this, loves his life as it has been and doesn¿t want to give it up, either. Can two stubborn, focused people make it work when faced with choices, meddling friends, neighbors and family ¿ some wanting them together ¿others warning them apart? Pick up The Christmas Date and find out for yourself! You won¿t be disappointed! -reviewed by Christy Janisse

    Great book!!

Even the grimmest of Grinches can¿t fail to grow a heart reading The Christmas Date, Michele Dunaway¿s latest from Harlequin American. This delightful take on a relationship of convenience brings together Kate Merrill, a woman busy with career and education and burned by a fatherless childhood, and Tyler Nichols, a globe-trotting photojournalist who craves adventure and shuns settling down. Both are adept at avoiding the schemes of matchmaking friends and neighbors, but neither can resist the magic of stolen Christmas kisses. Tyler is immediately attracted to his new neighbor Kate when he moves into the home he bought as a tax shelter. He has to dub her ¿Miss Home and Hearth¿ to remind himself that his lifestyle and hers will never match but needs the benefits of cold showers to tame his other thoughts. Kate steels herself against her undeniable attraction to Tyler by trying to assign him to ¿fake date¿ status, an easy solution to missing an office Christmas party. Dunaway is a master at steeping her plot in the importance of family bonds without detracting from the hero and heroine¿s immediate story. Tyler is a vagabond who treasures his family¿s closeness even though his career makes it difficult to please them. Kate has never had a traditional family but has wrapped herself in the comfort of her senior neighbors who watched her grow up and keep watch over her now. The reader can delight in watching these two overcome the obstacles that separate them to give themselves the Christmas gift of a lasting love.--Reviewed by Barbara Scott

    A warm Yuletide tale

In Orlando, Florida Kate Merrill learned from her handsome womanizing father that hunks don¿t believe in permanent relationships not even with adoring daughters. Thus when international photographer Tyler Nichols moves in next door, she assumes he might hit on her as a temporary distraction, but will depart rather quickly once he is bored with her just like dad did.----------- Tyler bought the house because his sister and accountant told him he needed a tax break and a swinging condo was not enough. His latest work in Iraq is Pulitzer Prize potential photos so he is looking forward to returning there. However, when he meets kissable Kate, he finds his desires change as she is his thrill, but to persuade her that they can have both a loving relationship and his photography career seems doubtful as she knows men leave.------------- This warm Yuletide tale stars seemingly two opposites as he is a globetrotting player and she is a stay at home sideliner, but her best friends, his mom and sister and readers will learn that first impressions can prove false especially with the right chemistry. Michele Dunaway provides her audience with a charming Yuletide tale as fans will wonder whether love is strong enough for Tyler and Kate to find away for them to remain together after New Year¿s.------------------ Harriet Klausner
