Author of the SAND BETWEEN THE TOES Series:
T. Patrick Mulroe,Jr. is from Oak Park, IL. During college he found a 'second family' on Cape Cod when he was looking for a place to live. On a cold winter morning he stepped into a church in Hyannis, MA--Saint Frances Xaviar. As he stepped out of the church he saw a sign that read GUESTS. The front door was open. Muriel MacKenzie rented him a room. That night Muriel's oldest daughter informed him that her mother said he resembled her husband, Frances. When he left to go back to Oak Park, IL Muriel told him he would return to Cape Cod because he had 'sand between his toes'--she could tell. For the next several years he divided his time between Oak Park and Cape Cod. When he and his wife were married in Hyannis Port at Saint Andrew's By The Sea Muriel MacKenzie and her family members were there with them. He lives with his wife and five children in Monona, WI. They spend summers on Cape Cod, MA.
--T. Patrick Mulroe was fortunate enough to become acquainted with Elli Castillo in Provincetown. Each summer he and his family returned to P-Town Ellie could be found singing, pulling a wagon down Commercial Street with the words ’76, 77,78 and finally 79 years of living my dream written on a cardboard sign each new season. Ellie gave freely from the heart songs that made everyone’s day just a little brighter. Inspired by Ellie T. Patrick Mulroe offers these short tales as a gift with the piece of his heart writing them cost him. T. Patrick thought he was giving Ellie something the day they met. It turns out he had nothing. Ellie gave him everything.
--In the spirit of Ellie Castillo, who moved T. Patrick Mulroe and so many others in ways unimaginable, the author is pulling his wagon down the center of the holiday season to share a bit of the Season Enjoy, but beware that the glimpse into these people’s lives is going to cost something, possibly a bit of your heart, because things that really matter always do. Happy Holidays and thank You, Ellie—Friend! Thank you for everything!
