Children's LiteratureThis book is part of "A World of Recipes" series that includes recipes from around the world, general information about the derivation of the recipe and detailed cooking instructions. Christmas Foods includes some background on the origin of Christmas and general information on where the recipes originated and how the dish is traditionally eaten. Each recipe has a picture and simple instructions. There are also labels that rate the difficulty of each recipe and encourage children to ask for adult assistance for dangerous actions, like frying or boiling liquids. The recipes would make a delicious meal including appetizers, soups, main entrees and lots of desserts. The book provides the inspiration to celebrate Christmas with an international flair. It defines terms, explains ingredients and measurements, provides a glossary and healthy eating tips. This would be a wonderful way for adults and children 10 and up to spend precious time together during the holiday season. Teens could certainly attempt the recipes alone. This is a great book for libraries. 2004, Heineman Library/Reed Elsevier Inc, Ages 12 up.
